(Explanation of the fourth type of evidence for the elevation of Allah, which is the ascent of created things to Allah, and the reconciliation between His saying, Exalted is He:

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This section, may Allah have mercy on him, concerns the fourth type of evidence indicating the elevation of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. He says:
"This is the fourth ***"
Meaning the fourth of the types indicating the elevation of Allah by His Essence.
"The ascent of the soul and the *** angels rising to the Most Merciful"
Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
owner of the ways of ascent. (4) The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him
[Al-Ma'arij 70:3-4]
The angels are known. Is the Spirit Gabriel, such that its conjunction with the angels is of the type of joining the specific to the general, as in His saying:
The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord
[Al-Qadr 97:4]
Or is the Spirit a genus of the spirits of the children of Adam, as is authentic by the hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that when the spirit is taken, it ascends with it to the sky. Whether it is this or that, in both there is an indication that Allah is above this. This is evidence.
"And indeed it came in two surahs, both of which *** contained the estimation by times"
The pronoun "it" refers to the ascent.
"In a surah where the ascents were estimated *** as fifty thousand, the calculation complete"
Allah, Exalted is He, said:
(1) A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen (2) To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer.
[Al-Ma'arij 70:1-2]
Here.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Yes.
(2) To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. (3) [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. (4) The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years.
[Al-Ma'arij 70:2-4]

"And by the prostration of the revelation, it was estimated as a thousand *** so for this reason they said they are two days"
This thousand, Allah, Exalted is He, said:
He arranges [each] matter from the heaven to the earth; then it will ascend to Him in a Day, the extent of which is a thousand years of those which you count.
[As-Sajdah 32:5]
In a second verse, He says:
And indeed, a day with your Lord is like a thousand years of those which you count.
[Al-Hajj 22:47]
But the author mentioned these two days only in the Surah of the Ascent and in the Surah of
Alif, Lam, Meem. The revelation.
the Prostration. He said:
"*** so for this reason they said they are two days" They said, meaning the people of knowledge
"The Day of Resurrection is mentioned with the one of the ascents ***" and it is the Day of Resurrection
during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. (5) So be patient with gracious patience. (6) Indeed, they see it [as] distant, (7) But We see it [as] near. (8) On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, (9) And the mountains will be like wool, (10) And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend,
[Al-Ma'arij 70:4-10]
and the context is very clear that what is intended by this is the Day of Resurrection, and this is supported by what is established in Sahih Muslim regarding the one who does not pay the zakah
that he will be punished for it أنه يعذب بها
here and there
during a day whose extent will be fifty thousand years
Sunan Abi Dawud 1658
so what is in the ascents is the Day of Resurrection and the one who says
"*** and the day in the revelation is now"
Meaning in this world. "In this present time" means in this world. The day in the Revelation of the Prostration is not the Day of Resurrection, but it is a day in this world. So they said, then, what are the two days? One is the day of the Ascent, and the second is the day of this worldly life.
And both are good. The author mentioned his opinion on this issue, and then at the end mentioned that it did not become clear to him. But we look at the opinion of the majority regarding this verse, which is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and al-Hasan al-Basri and others. Allah, Glorious is He, said:
He arranges [each] matter from the heaven to the earth; then it will ascend to Him in a Day, the extent of which is a thousand years of those which you count.
[As-Sajdah 32:5]
The context, and as Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) taught us, indicates that what is intended by this day is a day in this world, because it is the one in which the directing takes place, then the ascent. He directs from the sky to the earth, then it ascends. Its descent from the sky is five hundred, and its ascent from the earth to the sky is five hundred, and the distance between the sky and the earth is five hundred, as came in the hadiths. And on this basis, the day in the Surah of Alif Lam Mim, the Revelation of the Prostration, is a day in this world and not the Day of Resurrection. And the one in the Ascent is the Day of Resurrection. And in that case, there is absolutely no contradiction between the two verses. No contradiction. And the context supports this, indeed it specifies it. As for what Ibn al-Qayyim chose, and then he hesitated about it at the end, the statement on that will come, if Allah wills.
Of the worlds, and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and all his companions... The fourth type of what indicates the elevation of Allah, Glorious is He, is what He, Exalted is He, mentioned regarding the ascent of things to Him, meaning their rising. The author says that it came in two surahs.
"Both of them contained *** the estimation by times"
"In a surah where the ascents were estimated *** as fifty thousand, the calculation complete"
"And by the prostration of the revelation, it was estimated as a thousand *** so for this reason they said they are two days"
They said, meaning the scholars. "*** They are two days"
"The Day of Resurrection is mentioned with the one of the ascents *** and the day in the revelation is now"
In this world. This is what the majority of the scholars are upon, and this is the truth. This is the truth. And that is because Allah, Exalted is He, said in the Surah of Alif Lam Mim, the Revelation of the Prostration:
He arranges [each] matter from the heaven to the earth; then it will ascend to Him
[As-Sajdah 32:5]
And this indicates that there are heavens and there is an earth and there is directing and there is directing
from the heaven to the earth; then it will ascend to Him in a Day
[As-Sajdah 32:5]
meaning in one day and in one moment.
the extent of which is a thousand years
[As-Sajdah 32:5]
The measure of what comes in a day, and it may be in one moment, because it has the quality of being a time limit, and "day" is a time limit, and the time limit is broader than what is contained in it. Meaning this directing happens in a day, it may be in a moment. The moment in a day does not go beyond the scope of the day. And that is because the distance between the sky and the earth is five hundred years. This descent, the ascent
He arranges [each] matter from the heaven to the earth; then it will ascend to Him
[As-Sajdah 32:5]
the ascent is five hundred, the total is a thousand.
in a Day, the extent of which is a thousand years of those which you count. (6) That is the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, (7) Who perfected everything which He created
[As-Sajdah 32:5-7]
And this is very clear from the context that it is in this world, and it is very clear from the meaning that it is not in the Hereafter, because what is in the Hereafter has a measure of fifty thousand years.
And we come to the second day in the Hereafter. Allah, Glorious is He, said: سَأَلَ سَائِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ 1 لِلْكَافِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُ دَافِعٌ 2 مِنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ 3 تَعْرُجُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ A questioner asked about a punishment that is certain to befall 1 the disbelievers. 2 There is no repeller for it 3 from Allah, the Owner of the Ascending Stairways. The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him To whom? To the One of the Ascent. And He, Glorified and Exalted is He, did not specify in this verse, He did not specify the duration of their ascent to Allah, He did not specify. And as for His saying:
in a day في يوم
This is connected to
Realized واقع
meaning
about a punishment that is certain to befall بعذاب واقع
In a day whose measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with beautiful patience. 5 Indeed, they see it as far away, 6 but We see it as near. 7 The Day when the sky will be like molten copper And this is clear that it is a day, what day? The Day of Resurrection.
The student: The Resurrection.

The Shaykh : The Day of Resurrection. And this is in length, not in distance. Meaning the length of this day is fifty thousand years, fifty thousand years. And this is supported by what Muslim narrated in his Sahih from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If any owner of gold or silver does not pay what is due on him, when the Day of Resurrection would come, plates of fire would be beaten out for him; these would then be heated in the fire of Hell and his sides, his forehead and his back would be cauterized with them. Whenever these cool down, (the process is) repeated during a day the extent of which would be fifty thousand years, until judgment is pronounced among servants, and he sees whether his path is to take him to Paradise or to Hell.
Sahih Muslim 987a
So the verse and the hadith indicate clearly that this day is the day, what day? The Day of Resurrection. And as for the Revelation of Alif Lam Mim, the Prostration, it is clear from the context that what is intended by this day is in this world. It remains to be said that there is a third day, but it does not mention the ascent. It is His saying, Exalted is He:
And indeed, a day with your Lord is like a thousand years of those which you count.
[Al-Hajj 22:47]
We say that Allah knows best about this day, because Allah said:
And indeed, a day with your Lord
[Al-Hajj 22:47]
So He specialized in it, and we do not know what this day is. We say this is a day with Allah, and we do not know its exact identity, because Allah did not mention what indicates its specification. So the stronger opinion regarding the two noble verses is what the majority of the scholars said: that what is in the Surah of Alif Lam Mim, the Revelation of the Prostration, is in this world
He arranges [each] matter from the heaven to the earth; then it will ascend to Him
[As-Sajdah 32:5]
and that what is in the Surah of the Ascent is the Day of Resurrection. And on this basis, His saying:
The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him
[Al-Ma'arij 70:4]
is disconnected from what follows it. It is disconnected from what follows it, and it is like an explanation of His saying, what? His saying:
the Owner of the ascending paths ذي المعارج
Why did He describe Himself with the Ascent? He said: Because the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him. So this sentence is like an explanation and clarification of His saying:
the Owner of the ascending paths ذي المعارج
