The meaning of the poet's statement: "So today, by interpretation, is more fitting than this *** punishment that has befallen the near and the neighbors, and the mention of their ascent is in this *** world and the Day of Resurrection of the bodies"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : That which clarifies the meaning is that we say: Is his statement
in a Day, the extent of which is

يعني أنها أن عروجهم في الدنيا ويوم القيام خمسين ألف سنة connected to "ascent" or connected to "punishment" with "befallen"? The student: With "befallen." The Shaykh: Yes, we say with "befallen," meaning befallen on this day. A questioner asked about the punishment that has befallen the disbelievers on this day, on a day whose measure was fifty thousand years, and the ascent of the angels and the Spirit follows His statement "the One of the Ascending Stairways," and the speech ended with it. And even if we said that his statement "on a day" is connected to "ascent," it does not necessitate what Ibn al-Qayyim held, because it is permissible for the angels and the Spirit to ascend to Him on that day, meaning the Day of Resurrection. It is possible that "the One of the Ascending Stairways" refers to the ascent of the angels and the Spirit to Allah on that day, and there is no objection, for the angels on that day may ascend to Allah the Exalted and Majestic as Allah wills. In any case, what Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) held indicates that a person, no matter how high he reaches in knowledge, is not free from error in what we see, and knowledge is with Allah. So look at: "So today, by interpretation, is more fitting than pun *** ishment that has befallen the near and the neighbors" "And the mention of his ascent is in this *** world and the Day of Resurrection of the bodies." Yes. "And the mention of his ascent ***" The ascent of whom? The student: ... The Shaykh: The ascent of the angels. "In this *** world and the Day of Resurrection of the bodies." But we say to him (may Allah have mercy on him): Where in the verse is it stated that they ascend to Allah in this world on a day whose measure was fifty thousand years? Yes, where is this? If we make "on a day whose measure was fifty thousand years" connected to "ascent," it would follow that when is the ascent? The student: ... The Shaykh: If we say that his statement "on a day whose measure was fifty thousand years" is connected to "ascent," when is the ascent? The student: The Day of Resurrection. The Shaykh: The Day of Resurrection, understood. So how does he say (may Allah have mercy on him) that "the mention of their ascent is in this *** world and the Day of Resurrection of the bodies"? Meaning, Allah did not mention that they ascend in this world for fifty thousand years. And what ascends in Surat al-Sajdah is the matter, not the angels, and the angels are not mentioned at all. "He orders the matter from the heaven to the earth, then it ascends to Him." "And the mention of their ascent is in this *** world and the Day of Resurrection of the bodies" means that their ascent in this world and on the Day of Resurrection is fifty thousand years.
