Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A young man who is twenty-two years old fasts and prays and praises Allah, saying: "I fear Allah Mighty and Majestic, and I want to marry a woman who prays, but her father does not pray. What is the ruling of the Shari'ah in your view regarding this? May you be rewarded."

The Shaykh : There is no blame on this man for marrying this woman whose father does not pray, provided that she is righteous.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a losers. تنكح المرأة لأربع: لمالها وحسبها وجمالها ودينها، فاظفر بذات الدين تربت يداك
Sahih al-Bukhari 5090
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not address the righteousness of her father. Every person is responsible for himself. So if this woman is righteous, let him marry her with Allah's blessing. Perhaps his closeness to this family will be a cause for advising her father, guiding him, and directing him to the truth, and this husband may be a blessing for this family, as happens in many cases.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. The female questioner, N, says: Your Eminence, the Shaykh.
