The questioner : I ask you, O honorable Shaykh, about these actions a husband takes toward his wife: first, he insults and abuses her for a reason and without a reason.
Second: he has been boycotting her for nine months, and in addition to that, he does not sleep in his room. When she asked him the reason, he said: "I am determined to divorce her, but not now."
He does not provide for her, she says, whereas he provides for his sisters, who are working and married. She also says: this wife prays, fasts, reads the Qur'an, and raises the children in the best manner.
This husband, in her home, is negligent regarding the times of prayer, does not pray in the mosque which is close to the home, does not read the Qur'an, and does not listen to her. Please advise us, may you be rewarded.
The Shaykh : The answer to this question has two parts. The first part: regarding this husband, if what the questioner mentioned is true, then there is no doubt that he has erred in his conduct with his family, and it is obligatory for him to treat his family with kindness, as Allah Blessed and Exalted is He said:[An-Nisa 4:19] And Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah 2:228] If this husband is not pleased that his wife lacks something of good companionship, how can he be pleased to lack something of good companionship regarding his wife? Let him know that any right of hers that he neglects, Allah Glorified and Exalted is He will hold him accountable for it. And if he considers himself superior to the wife, then Allah the Exalted is above everyone, so it is obligatory for him to fear Allah Glorified and Exalted is He, and to fear Allah in himself first, and then in his wife second.
As for the second part, it is regarding this wife. Her command is to be patient and to seek reward from Allah, and to wait for relief, for the permanence of a state is impossible, and Allah will make ease after hardship. Let her be patient with the harm of the husband in order to maintain staying with him for the sake of the children, because if separation occurs, the children will be lost and become between a mother and a father who are distant, and their interests will be lost due to this separation. And I say to her: Allah Glorified and Exalted is He said:[At-Talaq 65:2-3] And He said, Mighty and Majestic: [Al-Anfal 8:46].
I ask Allah the Exalted to help everyone with His remembrance, His gratitude, and the excellence of His worship.
The questioner : O Allah, amen.
The Shaykh : Yes.
The questioner : May Allah bless you. This questioner is from the Noble Makkah, she asks and says.
