Good treatment of the wife by her husband and his fulfillment of her rights.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : When does a wife become the delight of the eyes for her husband?
A wife becomes the delight of the eyes for her husband, and the husband the delight of the eyes for his wife, when they fulfill what is obligatory upon them in the religion of Allah. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:
And live with them in kindness
, and He said:
And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable. But the men have a degree over them [in responsibility and authority].
[Al-Baqarah 2:228]
If every husband fulfilled what is obligatory upon him regarding the rights of his wife, by providing the obligatory expenditure in clothing, food, drink, and shelter, and by fulfilling what is obligatory upon him in treating her with kindness, such as showing a pleasant face and helping her in what she needs help with, and if she likewise fulfilled what is obligatory upon her regarding the rights of her husband, then their companionship would last, they would be happy in their lives, and their affairs would be straight between them. But, unfortunately, some husbands, and I mean the men, do not fulfill what is obligatory upon them regarding the rights of their wives. Rather, it is as if the wife is a servant, whose only concern is for him to satisfy his desire from her or to use her for the affairs of the house. He does not show her a pleasant face on any day, nor does he speak to her except with the tip of his nose, and he looks down on her. And yet, he wants her to fulfill the obligation of his right. Is this injustice or justice? It is injustice.
Treat them with kindness
Treatment from both sides
with what is knownبِالْمَعْرُوفِ
, but if he exerted what is obligatory upon him and became like our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his service to his family, milking the sheep for his family, (peace and blessings be upon him), mending his garment, and patching his sandal, and saying:
The best of you is the one who is best to his wife, and I am the best of you to my wives.
Sunan Ibn Majah 1977Hasan (Darussalam)
And she, likewise, if she is patient and seeks reward, waits for relief, and fulfills the right of her husband even if he falls short in her right, the outcome will be for her. This is a principle to consider in anyone with whom you have rights: if you fulfill the obligation and he falls short, Allah will support you against him, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the man who maintained ties with his relatives, treated them well, and was patient with them, while they did the opposite. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:
If it is so as you say, then you in fact throw hot ashes (upon their faces) and there would always remain with you on behalf of Allah (an Angel to support you) who would keep you dominant over them
Sahih Muslim 2558a
"Zahir" means: one who supports them, because "zahir" means: one who supports, as the Exalted said:
And the angels after that are a supporter
Look at how the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There will always be for you from Allah a supporter against them
Likewise, if the wife fulfills the right of her husband and is patient with his negligence and his failure to fulfill the obligation, the outcome will be for her. And the husband is the same; that is, there are husbands, both male and female, who neglect what is obligatory upon them, so it is upon each of us to be patient. But I ask you, O men: who is addressed with patience and endurance, the male or the female? If you say, be just, which is more deserving? The male? Yes, the male. What is the evidence? The evidence is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
A believing man should not hate a believing woman
Sahih Muslim 1468b
The scholars said: meaning, he does not dislike her.
If he dislikes a trait in her, he is pleased with another trait in her
So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) made it clear that the man must be a man, bearing more, because he is a rational man who controls himself and knows the benefits, so he looks to the future. And the woman, as you know, looks only at what is between her feet; her gaze does not extend far. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said:
If you enjoy her, you enjoy her with a flaw, and if you go to straighten her, you break her
And breaking her is divorcing her. Therefore, husbands must bear what they find of negligence regarding their wives, and they must be gentle with them. Then know that the woman is close and far, close and far. If she hears a soft word from you, all the resentment in her heart will disappear, because she is close. But if she hears an easy word from you and perceives it as difficult, she will swell up and become angry, because, as I said, she is close. So men must be tactful with women until their supplication is realized:
Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes
[Al-Furqan 25:74]
And it is important in this matter that a person be keen on the rectitude of his family, commanding them to do what is right and forbidding them from what is wrong, speaking to them with encouragement and warning, and not saying, "I am not a burden on them; I fear they will get tired of me." No, they will never get tired of it. By Allah, whenever a person does something for Allah, or says something for Allah, even if he thinks people will find it burdensome, the outcome will be for whom? For him, no matter what.
