What is obligatory upon one who has intercourse with his wife while she is at the onset of menstruation or at its end?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

The Shaykh : (peace and blessings be upon him).

The questioner :
Whoever goes to a diviner or a fortune-teller or a woman in her rear or a menstruating woman has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). من أتى عرافا أو كاهنا أو امرأة في دبرها أو حائضا فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم
Then the scholars of knowledge have detailed this, meaning: if a man comes to his wife at the beginning of menstruation or when the blood is flowing, the expiation is half a dinar at the beginning of menstruation if he did not do it intentionally, or when the blood is flowing, it is a dinar. Then, after that, if he also reads, it is: if he did it intentionally, it is a dinar. So I hope you will detail this, and may Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : Intercourse with a menstruating woman is forbidden because Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained for you
[Al-Baqarah 2:222]
And because intercourse with a menstruating woman is harmful to the man and the woman, and the principle regarding what is harmful is that it is forbidden, because Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
And do not kill yourselves [or one another] وَلا تَقْتُلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ
[An-Nisa 4:29]
.
However, if he has intercourse with her during menstruation, whether at its beginning, at its surge, or at its end, the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) differed on whether there is an expiation or not. This depends on the authenticity of the hadith reported on this matter.
Some of them authenticated the hadith and acted upon it, saying: he is obligated to pay a dinar or half of it, with the choice left to him. Some said: it is in order, as you mentioned: if it is at the surge of menstruation, it is a dinar, and at its beginning and end, it is half a dinar. Some said: it is with the choice left to him absolutely. The precaution is for a person to give charity of a full dinar, which is approximately half a Saudi pound of gold. This is the most cautious approach. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah guide us and you, O His Eminence the Shaykh.
