What is the ruling on performing the obligatory Hajj on behalf of someone who is able to perform it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A person bequeathed to another person to perform Hajj on his behalf, and he is able to do so. Does this suffice for him?

The Shaykh : Is it the obligatory Hajj or a voluntary one?

The questioner : The obligatory one.

The Shaykh : Yes, if a person appoints another person to perform Hajj on his behalf, and it is the obligatory Hajj, and the one who appointed him is able to perform it, then it is not valid and does not suffice for the obligation of Islam. It is obligatory for the one who is able to perform Hajj himself. As for the one who is unable, if his inability is not expected to end, such as an old person or a person suffering from an illness that is not expected to be cured, then he appoints someone else. If the inability is temporary, such as a temporary illness, then he waits until this illness ends and he performs Hajj himself. Yes.
