The Book of Faith-10a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us. And Abu Kuraib and Ishaq ibn Ibrahim narrated to us from Abu Mu'awiyah, both of them from al-A'mash, from Abu Dhubyān, from Usamah ibn Zayd—and this is the hadith of Ibn Abi Shaybah—he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us on a military expedition, and we attacked al-Hiraqat of the tribe of Jahina at dawn. I caught a man, and he said: "There is no god but Allah." So I stabbed him. This matter weighed heavily on me, so I mentioned it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Did he say: 'There is no god but Allah,' and you killed him?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, he only said it out of fear of the weapon." He said: "Did you not cut open his chest to know whether he said it or not?" He kept repeating this to me until I wished that I had embraced Islam on that day. Sa'd said: "And I, by Allah, will not kill a Muslim until the one with the two bellies—meaning Usamah—kills him." A man said: "Did not Allah say: 'And fight them until there is no fitnah and the religion is all for Allah'?" Sa'd said: "We fought until there was no fitnah, but you and your companions want to fight until there is fitnah."

The Shaykh : This is from the Khawarij, who say: Why do we not fight them, even if they say "There is no god but Allah," as long as they are committing sins? Sa'd answered them with this wonderful answer, saying: We fought with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) until there was no fitnah, but you now are fighting until there is fitnah. And this is the reality.
