A woman asks: I bought gold for myself and my daughters for adornment, but it exceeds the nisab. Is there zakah on it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I bought gold for myself and my daughters with the intention of adornment, but it exceeds the nisab. Do we have to pay zakah on it?

The Shaykh : As for the case where each of your shares reaches the nisab, which is eighty-five grams of gold, then zakah is obligatory on each of you.
And as for the case where your shares fall short of the nisab, meaning each one’s jewelry does not reach the nisab, then there is no zakah on you. However, if some of your jewelry reaches the nisab and some does not, then zakah is obligatory on the one whose jewelry reaches the nisab, and it is not obligatory on the one whose jewelry does not reach the nisab.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
