The questioner : My question is: I am a person who suffers from obsessive thoughts. When my period comes during Ramadan and I break my fast for seven days, I must add one day so it becomes eight. And if it is eight days, I make it nine. And if I am fasting and something from the air or something else enters my throat during Ramadan or while making up missed fasts, I have obsessive thoughts about that day and it seems to me that my fast is not valid, so I repeat that day in the month of Ramadan. And in Ramadan, if my period comes for one or two days and then stops, the point is that she says her letter is long and she lists her fasting in Ramadan, saying that she always adds days. So what is the solution for her?

The Shaykh : The solution for this woman who is afflicted with this obsessive compulsion is to increase her remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and to supplicate to Him (Blessed and Exalted is He) to remove from her what has befallen her. She should also increase seeking refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, and she should resolve and be determined to frustrate the Shaytan by refusing to submit to his obsessive thoughts. With the help of Allah and by making an effort to remove this, Allah will remove from her these obsessive thoughts.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And let her know that if a woman becomes pure from menstruation after seven days, it is not permissible for her to leave the eighth day; she must fast if that is in Ramadan.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : If she leaves the eighth day while she is pure, this is one of the major sins, because it is abandoning an obligatory duty of Islam. Fasting the days of Ramadan is an obligation, and each day is an obligation for a person to fast. If she neglects it, that is a great harm for her. The Shaytan does not want anything from her except that she fall into this prohibition and leave fasting a day that Allah has made obligatory for her to fast.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : This, O Shaykh, is a letter that came from the sender Muhammad al-'Ayyash al-Hamoud al-Jari'awi. He says in his letter:
