The questioner : The second question in this letter is from the brother Fahd Ghazi al-Bishri. He says: I fasted the month of Ramadan last year and broke my fast for one day, and another Ramadan came upon me and I have not made up that day, knowing that there is nothing preventing me from making it up. Is it permissible for me to make it up? Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh : Your delaying the making up of the fast without an excuse until the second Ramadan has entered is an error, because the scholars say that it is not permissible for a person to delay making up Ramadan until after the second Ramadan.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : This is due to the negligence and lack of concern involved, and because it is exposed to the days piling up on you until you are unable to make them up. So you must repent to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and seek forgiveness for what occurred from you, and not return to this a second time. Then make up the day that you missed from last year, based on the saying of the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:185]. Yes.
