If a person is in a state of major ritual impurity and he washes his entire body with water without performing the recommended practices of the full ritual bath, does that suffice for him in place of the ablution?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If a person is in a state of major ritual impurity and he washes his entire body with water without performing the recommended practices of the full ritual bath, does that suffice for him in place of the ablution?

The Shaykh : For the one who is in a state of major ritual impurity, the ablution is included in the full ritual bath, and the ruling becomes that of the full ritual bath. So in this case, if he does not intend to perform the ablution, he must wash his head, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves وإن كنتم جنبا فاطهروا
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
We will discuss this later, if Allah wills.
