Speaking about the virtues of Abu Bakr.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : 'Umar went to Abu Bakr and said to him the same thing he had said to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and Abu Bakr responded to him in exactly the same way the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) had responded. From this, we know that Abu Bakr was more composed and more steadfast than? Than 'Umar, and a fortiori than the others, because he was patient in places of extreme difficulty more than 'Umar was patient. This is one such place.
The second place was at the death of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). When it was said that the Messenger had died and his death was announced, 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up among the people in the mosque saying:
The Messenger did not die, but rather he fainted, and may Allah send him back so that I may cut off the hands and feet of men.
and he denied it. He stood up as a preacher, and who was he? Abu Bakr was, in our opinion, the most stricken of people by the calamity of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). On that day, a kind of vitality had been seen in the Messenger, so he (may Allah be pleased with him) went out to a garden he had in al-Sunh. Then the news came to him that the Messenger had died. He came to the Messenger and entered with composure, self-control, and tranquility, and uncovered his face. When he saw that he had died, he kissed him while weeping and said:
I sacrifice my father and mother for you. May you be well in life and in death. By Allah, Allah will not combine two deaths for you. As for the first death, you have already died it.
. Then he went out to the people, and the people were in an uproar and in a state of agitation. He found 'Umar speaking, so he said to him: "Hold on, hold on, be calm." Then he went up to the pulpit and delivered to the people that great sermon which deserves to be written in gold ink. He said:
As for what follows, whoever used to worship Muhammad, then Muhammad has died.
Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq 14:58
. Meaning: and his worship has died, because he worships Muhammad, and Muhammad has died, so his worship dies.
but whoever worshipped Allah, Allah is alive and will never die
Sahih al-Bukhari 1241, 1242
(may Allah be pleased with him). Then he recited:
Indeed, you are to die, and indeed, they are to die.
[Az-Zumar 39:30]
Muhammad is not but a messenger. [Other] messengers have passed on before him. So if he was to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels
[Ali 'Imran 3:144]
. 'Umar said:
It was not but that when Abu Bakr recited it, my legs did not hold me.
. He prostrated, unable to stand, and he was certain that it was the truth. This is a very great place, and yet Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) remained steadfast with this great steadfastness, while 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was unable to bear it. And how many there were who were like 'Umar at that time!
As for the third place: when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) died, those who apostatized among the Arabs apostatized, and Abu Bakr resolved to fight them. 'Umar opposed him and said:
I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah
Sahih Muslim 22
. And it was said to him:
How will you send the army of Usamah to the borders of Sham when we need it?
. This was said by one who supported the fighting. 'Umar answered, saying: 'Umar answered, so he said to him:
By Allah! If they (pay me the Zakat and) withhold even a young (female) goat
Sahih al-Bukhari 1456, 1457
.
The student: Abu Bakr answered.

The Shaykh : Yes, 'Umar answered. Do you not know the difference between the raised and the accusative? Abu Bakr answered. 'Umar said to him:
If they prevented me from a rope - or he said a camel - that they used to pay to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I would fight them. By Allah, I will fight whoever separates between prayer and zakah. Zakah is a right of wealth.
. And regarding the army of Usamah, he said:
By Allah, I will not consider lawful a banner that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) tied.
. Then the result, praise be to Allah, was that the apostates were overcome, and the zakah was taken from their wealth. As for the army, the people of Madinah gained great prestige in the hearts of the Arabs. They said: "These people sent their armies to? To Sham to fight. So they have strength, and people feared them."
So the important thing, my brothers, the important thing is that Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was the most steadfast, the most steadfast of the Companions in places of extreme difficulty. Yes.
The time is up, says Hajjaj. Yes. Benefits. Yes.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author said: "And we see that whoever disbelieves in Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)" to the end of it.
And we discuss what we have read previously.
