Tracing the Hadith: (You will see your Lord as you see the full moon on a clear night, and you will not be hindered in seeing it. So if you can, do not be prevented from praying before the sun rises)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Reader: All praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, seek His forgiveness, and seek His guidance. As for what follows: This is a study tracing the Hadith:
Indeed you shall be placed before your Lord and you shall see Him as you see this moon. You will see Him without trouble. So if you are able to keep from becoming overwhelmed from prayer before the rising of the sun and before its setting, then do so.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2551Sahih (Darussalam)
Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that it is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim in *Al-'Aqidah al-Wasitiyyah*.
The study: It is narrated from seven narrators. Al-Bukhari narrated it, as in *Fath al-Bari*, in the Book of the Adhan, Chapter on the Ruling on Prostration, Volume 2, page 292, from Abu Hurayrah
The people said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Shall we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" He replied, "Do you have any doubt in seeing the full moon on a clear (not cloudy) night?" They replied, "No, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!" He said, "Do you have any doubt in seeing the sun when there are no clouds?" They replied in the negative. He said, "You will see Allah (your Lord) in the same way. أن الناس قالوا يا رسول الله هل نرى ربنا يوم القيامة؟ قال : هل تضارون في رؤية القمر ليلة البدر ليس دونه سحاب؟ قالوا: لا يا رسول الله، قال: فهل تمارون في الشمس ليس دونها سحاب؟ قالوا: لا، قال: فإنكم ترونه كذلك
Sahih al-Bukhari 806
He mentioned it in a long Hadith.
It also came from another path in *Fath al-Bari*, in the Book of the Rulings, Chapter on the Sirat is a Bridge over Hell, Volume 11, page 444, from Abu Hurayrah, like the previous narration, but he said:
You will not be hindered
instead of
You will not be hindered
.
Also, in the Book of Tawhid, Chapter on His Saying:
(22) [Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant, (23) Looking at their Lord.
[Al-Qiyamah 75:22-23]
Volume 13, page 419, from Abu Hurayrah with the same wording as the previous narration.
Also, in the same book and chapter, Volume 13, page 419, from Jarir ibn Abdullah ibn Jarir, he said:
We were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he looked at the full moon on a clear night. He said: You will see your Lord as you see this moon, and you will not be hindered in seeing it.
.

The Shaykh : You will not be hindered.
The reader:
and you will have no trouble in seeing Him, so if you can avoid missing (through sleep or business, etc.) a prayer before sunrise (Fajr) and a prayer before sunset (`Asr) you must do so.
Sahih al-Bukhari 7434
.
Also, in the Book of Tawhid, the same book and chapter, Volume 13, and the same page, from Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali, he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
You will definitely see your Lord with your own eyes.
Sahih al-Bukhari 7435
only.
Also, in the same book, chapter, volume, and page, from Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us on the night of the full moon and said:
You will see your Lord on the Day of Resurrection as you see this (full moon) and you will have no difficulty in seeing Him.
Sahih al-Bukhari 7436
.

The Shaykh : May Allah send prayers and peace upon him.
The Reader: He also mentioned it in the same book, chapter, volume, and page 420, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri
We said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Shall we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" He said, "Do you have any difficulty in seeing the sun and the moon when the sky is clear?" We said, "No." He said, "So you will have no difficulty in seeing your Lord on that Day as you have no difficulty in seeing the sun and the moon (in a clear sky)."
Sahih al-Bukhari 7439
and he mentioned it in a long Hadith.

The Shaykh : You will not be hindered, with the fathah.
The Reader: Yes,
You will not have any difficulty in seeing them.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 64:287
.
Also, al-Tirmidhi mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhi narrated it, as Ibn al-Arabi mentioned in *'Aridat al-Ahwadhi*, in the Chapter on What Came Regarding Seeing the Lord, Blessed and Exalted is He, in Volume 10, page 18, from Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali.

The Shaykh : Al-Bajali, al-Bajali, yes.
The Reader: He said, and he mentioned the Hadith with the wording of Jarir's narration in al-Bukhari, except that it contains:
So they looked at the moon.
instead of
When they looked.
, and an addition in the wording:
Indeed you shall be placed before your Lord and you shall see Him
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2551Sahih (Darussalam)
instead of
You will see your Lord
, and an addition at the end: Then he recited:
exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting
[Taha 20:130]
.
Ibn Majah also narrated it, and it is found in *Sahih Ibn Majah*, in the Introduction, in the Chapter on What the Jahmiyyah Denied, in Volume 1, page 35.

The Shaykh : *Sahih Ibn Majah* and not *Sunan*?
The Reader: *Sahih Sunan Ibn Majah* by Al-Albani.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The Reader: From Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali, he said, and he mentioned the Hadith with the wording of al-Tirmidhi's narration, and Al-Albani graded it as authentic.
Also, in the same chapter, volume, and page, from Abu Hurayrah, traced to the Prophet:
Do you have any difficulty in seeing the moon on the night of the full moon? They said: No. He said: So likewise, you will not have any difficulty in seeing your Lord on the Day of Resurrection.
. Also, Al-Albani graded it as authentic...
Also, from Abu Sa'id, in the same book, chapter, volume, and page, from Abu Sa'id, he said:
We said, O Messenger of Allah, will we see our Lord? He said: Do you have any difficulty in seeing the sun at noon when there are no clouds? We said: No. He said: Do you have any difficulty in seeing the moon on the night of the full moon when there are no clouds? They said: No. He said: You will not have any difficulty in seeing Him except as you have difficulty in seeing them.
.
Also, on the same page, from Abu Razin, he said:
I said: O Messenger of Allah, will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection? I said: O Messenger of Allah, will we see Allah on the Day of Resurrection? And what is the sign of that in His creation? He said: O Abu Razin, is it not the case that every one of you sees the moon with nothing between him and it? I said: Yes. He said: Then Allah is greater, and that is His sign in His creation.
. And Al-Albani said: "It is hasan...".
Also, the author of *Sunan Abu Dawud* narrated it, as in its commentary *Awn al-Ma'bud*, in the Chapter... Volume 13, pages 51 and 52, from Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali, the Hadith with the wording of al-Tirmidhi's narration from Jarir, but with an addition:
The night of the fourteenth.
, that is: in his saying:
So they looked at the moon on the night of the full moon, the night of the fourteenth.
.
The author of *Awn al-Ma'bud* said in tracing the Hadith: "Al-Bukhari listed eleven Hadiths in his *Sahih* regarding the establishment of the vision". And he quoted al-Mundhiri's saying: "It was narrated by al-Bukhari, Muslim, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i, and Ibn Majah".
And Ibn al-Qayyim said in his commentary: "He narrated the Hadiths of the vision from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)".

The Shaykh : Explain it?
The Reader: *Sunan Abu Dawud*.

The Shaykh : *Al-Tahdhib*.
The Reader: Yes.

The Shaykh : *Tahdhib Sunan Abu Dawud*.
The Reciter: Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The Reader: A group of the Companions narrated the Hadiths of the vision from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), including Jarir ibn Abdullah, Abu Razin al-Aqili, Abu Hurayrah, Abu Sa'id, Suhayb, Jabir, Abu Musa, Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Ibn Abbas, Ibn Umar, Anas, 'Adi ibn Hatim, 'Ammar ibn Yasir, 'Amr ibn Thabit al-Ansari, and Abu Bakr.
Also, from Abu Hurayrah, he said:
The people asked : Messenger of Allah! Shall we see our lord, the Exalted, on the Day of resurrection? He replied : Do you feel any trouble in seeing the sun at noon when it is not in the cloud? They said: No. He asked : Do you feel any trouble in seeing the moon on the night when it is full and not in the cloud? They replied: No. He said: By him in whose hand my soul is, you will not feel any trouble in seeing him except as much as you feel in seeing any of them.
Sunan Abi Dawud 4730Sahih (Al-Albani)
. Muslim narrated it, as the commentator of the *Sunan* mentioned, quoting al-Mundhiri.
And from Abu Razin also, he said: O Messenger of Allah.

The Shaykh : It is better to return to the original.
The Reader: How?

The Shaykh : I say it is better to return to the original; Muslim narrated it, so return to the original.
The Reader: I mentioned...

The Shaykh : You are saying "Muslim narrated it" based on al-Khatib's transmission.
The Reciter: Yes.

The Shaykh : It is better to return to the original.
The Reader: ...repeated, the wordings are very close.

The Shaykh : Do you mean its attribution to Muslim is a transmission?
The reader: ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, better, yes.
The Reader: From Abu Razin, he said:
Abu Razin al-`Uqaili told that he asked, "Messenger of God, will each one of us see his Lord, being alone with Him, on the day of resurrection?" and received the reply, "Certainly." He asked, "What sign is there of that in His creation?" and received the reply, "Abu Razin, does each one of you not see the moon on the night when it is full, being alone with it?" When he agreed, he said, "It is only a part of God's creation, but God is more glorious and greater." Abu Dawud transmitted it.
Mishkat al-Masabih 5658
. The Hadith was narrated by Imam Ahmad, as the commentator mentioned in *Al-Fath al-Rabbani*... Volume 24, page.

The Shaykh : Volume 24.
The Reader: Volume 24, pages 206 to 210, from Abu Hurayrah, as in al-Bukhari's long narration, except that it contains:
you are troubled تضارون
instead of:
you are troubled تمارون
, and he mentioned it from two paths, and the commentator said in his tracing: "It was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim from several paths".
Also, the saying of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, as in Muslim's narration from Abu Hurayrah mentioned earlier, and the commentator said about this Hadith: "It was narrated by the two Shaykhs".
It is narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, traced to the Prophet:
You will see your Lord (Mighty and Majestic). They said: O Messenger of Allah, will we see our Lord? He said: Are you troubled by seeing the sun at midday? They said: No. He said: Are you troubled by seeing the moon on the night of the full moon? They said: No. He said: Then you will not be troubled by seeing Him except as you are troubled by that.
. And the commentator said: "It was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim". And it was narrated... from Abu Razin, as in the previous narration from him, so the commentator of the *Musnad* said in his tracing: "It was narrated by Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, al-Hakim, and al-Tabarani", and this, and Allah knows best.

The Shaykh : Fine, but when there are multiple narrations like this, it is better to say: Abu Hurayrah narrated it, Jarir narrated it, Abu Razin narrated it, and then mention their narrations, because this is closer to being comprehensive, closer to being comprehensive, so that we know who among the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated it.
The study, in any case, is fine, if Allah wills, yes?
The Student: ... he mentioned it in al-Bukhari and Muslim.

The Shaykh : No, al-Bukhari narrated it, that is what is intended, right?
The Reader: He narrated it.

The Shaykh : He narrated it.
Yes, shall we read? Come, Abd al-Rahman Dawud.
