Ruling on sitting in prayer when unable to perform some of the pillars
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The brother S. A. J. from Maysan says in his question: Some people, especially the elderly, are unable to prostrate or sit for the tashahhud. Therefore, we see them praying while standing, and then when it comes to prostration, they sit on a chair or on the wall separating the rows. What is the ruling on their doing this?
A: I am not aware of any blame in what the questioner mentioned, if he is unable to do anything other than that, due to the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) : [al-Taghābun:16] and His saying (Mighty and Majestic): [al-Baqarah:286].
And due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to 'Imran ibn Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both):Sunan Abi Dawud 952Sahih (Al-Albani) It was narrated by al-Bukhari in his Sahih, and by al-Nasa'i in his Sunan, and this is the wording of al-Nasa'i. And success is from Allah.
A: I am not aware of any blame in what the questioner mentioned, if he is unable to do anything other than that, due to the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) :
So fear Allah as much as you are able
فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْAllah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity
لا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلا وُسْعَهَاAnd due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to 'Imran ibn Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both):
offer prayer in standing condition; if you are unable to do so, then in sitting condition: if you are then at your side
صل قائمًا، فإن لم تستطع فقاعدًا، فإن لم تستطع فعلى جنب، فإن لم تستطع فمستلقيًا
