Question:
The first message in this episode is from one of our female listeners. The sender, whose initials are (E. S. F), is from Hawtat Sudair. Our sister’s message is somewhat long, but the summary of her first question is: “Your Eminence, the question is about sorcery and sorcerers, as they suffer greatly from this matter, as she says. Especially since she states: ‘We have discovered that one of our sisters has been afflicted with sorcery after her engagement was suspended, and she was forced to seek a cure for this issue. One of the women told her that she is under a spell and that the sorcery is located under the door threshold.’ She asks Your Eminence how one can protect oneself from the evil of these people? May Allah reward you with good.”
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
The Noble Qur’an, which is the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), has indicated that sorcery exists. Some of it is illusion, and some of it has reality and effect. Among this is His saying regarding the story of Moses with the sorcerers: [Ta-Ha: 66]. And among this is His saying (Exalted and Majestic is He) in Surat al-Baqarah: [al-Baqarah: 102].
So sorcery is a reality, but some of it is illusion and deception, with no real substance, as was the case with the sorcerers in what they did of creating illusions with ropes and staffs. Some of it has an effect, as we mentioned in Surat al-Baqarah, that the sorcerers learn from the two angels: [al-Baqarah: 102].
But only by the permission of Allah. Therefore, He said: [al-Baqarah: 102], meaning: by the cosmic, decreed permission of Allah. This indicates that harm may occur from it, and it may result in separation between a man and his wife. However, many people may imagine this thing and think it is sorcery, when it is not sorcery, but rather illusions and whispers.
What is prescribed in such cases is to protect against sorcery through the lawful means of seeking refuge and the lawful dhikr (remembrance) that Allah has made a protection against it. So it is prescribed for the believing man and woman to protect against it through the lawful means, including: reciting Ayat al-Kursi after every prayer and when going to sleep; reciting “Say: He is Allah, the One” (Iqra’), “Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the Daybreak” (Iqra’), and “Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind” (Iqra’), after every prayer, and three times after Fajr and Maghrib, and three times when going to sleep. All of this is among the means of protection against sorcery and the evil of Satan.
Also among this is: seeking refuge with the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created, three times in the morning and three times in the evening: “I seek refuge with the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.” And among this is what came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the authentic hadith, which is to say in the morning and evening:Sunan Ibn Majah 3869 three times. If he says it, nothing will harm him: Sunan Ibn Majah 3869 three times in the morning and three times in the evening. It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) from the hadith of 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) : .
Among this is: taking seven leaves of green sidr (lotus tree), crushing them and putting them in water, and reciting in it Ayat al-Kursi, “Say: O you disbelievers,” “Say: He is Allah, the One,” “Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the Daybreak,” and “Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind.” And if he recites al-Fatihah as well, that is good, because al-Fatihah is the Mother of the Qur’an, it has a great status, and it is the best of the surahs. And he recites in the vessel the verses of sorcery, whether in al-A'raf, or from Surat Ta-Ha and Surat Yunus.
In al-A'raf, He says (Exalted and Majestic is He):[Al-A'raf 7:117] Then the truth prevailed and what they were doing was nullified So they were defeated there and returned in disgrace [al-A'raf: 117-119].
And in Surat Yunus, He says (Glorified and Exalted is He):[Yunus 10:79] So when the sorcerers came, Moses said to them, “Throw what you are going to throw.” So when they threw, Moses said, “What you have brought is sorcery. Indeed, Allah will render it void. Indeed, Allah does not make right the work of corrupters. And Allah establishes the truth with His words, even if the criminals dislike it” [Yunus: 79-82].
And from Surat Ta-Ha, He says (Glorified and Exalted is He):[Taha 20:65] He said, “No, throw. And when their ropes and staffs were made to appear to him, by their magic, that they were moving, Moses felt fear in his soul. We said, “Do not fear. Indeed, you are the superior. And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow what they have made. Indeed, what they did was the trick of a sorcerer, and the sorcerer will not succeed wherever he comes” [Ta-Ha: 65-69].
He also blows into the water:Riyad as-Salihin 902 three times, Riyad as-Salihin 902 meaning: it leaves no illness. And he also says: Sahih Muslim 2186, naming the name of Allah, “I am treating so-and-so, or the owner of this water who...”, Sahih Muslim 2186 saying it three times. All of this is good. And if he also says: Sunan Abi Dawud 3898Sahih (Al-Albani) three times, that is good.
Then he drinks from this water in gulps, and sprinkles himself with the rest. He pours water on himself sufficient for sprinkling, and sprinkles himself with the rest. The general rule, by the permission of Allah, is that the effect will disappear if there is real sorcery; it will disappear by the permission of Allah. And likewise, the one who is prevented from his wife benefits from this treatment as well. He sprinkles himself with it, drinks three gulps from it, and sprinkles himself with the rest. If the effect disappears and health is achieved, then praise be to Allah. Otherwise, it is prescribed for him to repeat the process two or three times, or more, until the effect of the sorcery or the prevention from the wife disappears. The general rule is that it disappears with the first time, and it may require a second or third time. Praise be to Allah, so the treatment is facilitated, praise be to Allah.
So I advise this treatment for anyone who thinks he is under a spell, or that he is afflicted with the evil eye, or that he is prevented from his wife. And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) has made this among the causes of healing . And if he reads it himself, reading Ayat al-Kursi, “Say: He is Allah, the One,” and the two Mu'awwidhat (seeking refuge chapters) over himself, and wipes his head, chest, and face when going to sleep, then this is also beneficial. This is beneficial by the permission of Allah. And if he reads Ayat al-Kursi with it, then it is also among the causes of healing.
All of these are lawful medicines for anyone who is afflicted with something disliked, such as illness, or prevention from a wife, or thinks he is under a spell, or finds hatred between him and his wife. Let him use this, knowing (by the permission of Allah) that Allah will benefit him with it. Let him be sincere in his desire for what is with Allah, knowing that Allah is capable of all things, and that He (Glorified and Exalted is He) is the Healer and the One who grants health from all evil, and that He disposes of His servants as He wills. Let him have good opinion of his Lord, and let him ask Him (Glorified and Exalted is He) to benefit through the means, and let him be humble before Him (Exalted and Majestic is He), who is the One who said (Glorified and Exalted is He): [al-Baqarah: 102]. Let him be humble before Allah sincerely, and let him ask Him to heal them and grant him health, and to benefit through these means. And He (Glorified and Exalted is He) is the Generous, the Bountiful, who said: [al-Baqarah: 186]. And He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: [Ghafir: 60].
We ask that He guide all Muslims to what is in His pleasure, and that He heal their sick from all evil, and that He guide them to everything that benefits them in religion and worldly life. Yes.

seemed to him from their magic that they were moving
يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ سِحْرِهِمْ أَنَّهَا تَسْعَىAnd they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic]." And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah. And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. But the Children of Israel certainly knew that whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew.
So sorcery is a reality, but some of it is illusion and deception, with no real substance, as was the case with the sorcerers in what they did of creating illusions with ropes and staffs.
