The obligation to honor one's father, respect him, and not anger him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This questioner says: I am the one among my sisters and brothers who takes care of my father and stays up with him when he is ill. I do not mind this; rather, I find comfort in it, and I know that this is an obligation. However, my father, may Allah reward him with good, sometimes gets angry over the simplest things. One day, a guest visited us—my sister’s husband, who is also my father’s cousin—and my father annoyed him and angered him. So he left our house with a broken heart and swore that he would not enter our house as long as my father is alive. At that moment, I was very angry with my father and I cursed my grandmother, my father’s mother, because she was stingy like my father, and she has been dead for a long time. I regretted it afterward and repented to Allah, and I pray for her forgiveness after every prayer. But sometimes I raise my voice at my father when he angers me over such things. Do I have a sin on my account, and what is your advice for my father?
Answer: First, you are to be thanked and rewarded for serving your father. This is part of his right over you and part of being dutiful to him. You have a great reward. So be patient, have patience, and seek reward from Allah, because a sick person may get angry and may not be able to tolerate certain things. You should be patient and seek reward, and not anger him. If he angers you, bear it.
As for what you did in cursing your grandmother, that is a mistake and an evil act. Repentance, praise be to Allah, is sufficient, as long as you have repented and regretted it. Praise be to Allah. The dead are not to be cursed, and relatives have rights, especially grandmothers and parents, who have a great right. Being dutiful to them is among the most important matters. So cursing your grandmother is an evil act. Praise be to Allah for the repentance and returning to Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He.
As for angering your father, you should warn yourself against it. Do not get angry at him, and do not say to him anything but kind words. So bear it and be patient, and be glad of good. A sick person may get angry over the slightest cause. So you must bear it, be patient, and seek reward. May Allah guide you, make your affairs easy, and heal your father.
We advise the father, if he hears this, to be patient and to ask Allah for well-being. We advise him to thank you for your good deeds, and not to annoy you or speak to you in a way that angers you. Rather, he should consider your efforts and your good deeds, and thank you for them. He should persist in asking for healing and well-being, asking his Lord for healing and well-being. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you
