The second question of Fatwa No. ( 19769 )
Q 2: If the deceased dies, the family performs the slaughter on the third day after his death, believing that he will meet the deceased. They have been advised, and they said regarding this belief: We have stopped with this intention, but it is necessary on the third day.
A 2 : The slaughter for the deceased with the intention mentioned in the question is a religious innovation (bid'ah) with no basis, and every innovation is misguidance. What is prescribed (mashru') for the deceased is to give charity on his behalf, to make supplication for him, and to perform Hajj or 'Umrah for him, as there is evidence for this. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
