Advice for one who quarrels with his mother

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The woman who wrote the letter says: I have a mother whom I sometimes quarrel with, because I cannot control myself. What should I do?
Please inform me, may Allah reward you.

Answer:
It is obligatory for you to be gentle with your mother, to treat her well, and to refrain from quarreling. The mother’s right is immense, and so is the father’s right. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says in His great Book in many places:
And to parents, kindnessوَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا
[Al-Isra: 23]. And He says, Glorified is He:
Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.أَنِ اشْكُرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيْكَ إِلَيَّ الْمَصِيرُ
[Luqman: 14]. And He says, (Exalted and Majestic is He):
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.
[Al-Isra 17:23]
And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy, and say: “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was small” [Al-Isra: 23-24].
Therefore, it is obligatory for the son to fear Allah, to be gentle with his parents, and not to quarrel with them. Rather, he should remain silent or address them in the best manner. If his father says something harsh to him, or curses him, he should say to him: “May Allah guide you, may Allah be pleased with you, may Allah reward you with good.” He should not respond with harshness or bad words, even if his father or mother curses him. He should say: “May Allah reward you with good, may Allah be pleased with you, may Allah guide you, O mother,” and similar kind words. He should never respond with evil, and it is not permissible for him to respond with evil, nor to quarrel, nor to raise his voice against his father or his mother. We ask Allah for guidance for all of us.

The presenter: Amen, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
