Question:
This is a sister who is listening to this program. She says: I would like His Eminence the Shaykh to offer advice to my husband. She says: Although he is committed to the rituals of the religion, performs the prayers, and is among those who fear Allah, he treats her harshly. She says: My husband and I perform our acts of worship at their proper times, and our children—praise be to Allah—are constantly engaged in worship. Is there any advice from His Eminence the Shaykh?
Answer:
Yes, we advise all husbands to fear Allah, to be gentle with their wives, to treat them well, and to avoid harshness and bad speech. Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Nisa: 19], and He the Glorious and Exalted said: [Surat al-Baqarah: 228], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: .
Therefore, it is obligatory for husbands to have good conduct, good speech, and a good manner with their wives, and to avoid severity and violence; not in speech, nor in anything else. This is what is obligatory for husbands.
Likewise, the wife must treat her husband with good speech, good conduct, and obedience in what is right. Each of them must help the other in good. Allah the Glorious and Exalted says: [Surat al-Ma'idah: 2]. So she and her husband must cooperate in righteousness and piety through good speech, good conduct, and hastening to do everything that pleases the other, from what Allah has made permissible. We ask Allah for guidance for all of us.
The presenter: May Allah reward you and bless you, O His Eminence the Shaykh.
