Question:
This questioner, Umm Salamah from the Noble Makkah, is asking about 'Umrah: From where should she enter ihram, from her home or from the Musalla of al-Tan'eem, for the residents of the Noble Makkah, O honorable Shaykh?
Answer:
If a resident of Makkah wishes to perform 'Umrah, he must go out to the halal area: al-Tan'eem, or 'Arafah, or al-Ja'ranah, or elsewhere. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wished to perform 'Umrah while he was in the outskirts of Makkah, he entered ihram from al-Ja'ranah and performed 'Umrah in the Year of the Conquest. When 'Aishah wished to perform 'Umrah while she was in Makkah, he ordered her to go out to the halal area. He ordered her brother 'Abd al-Rahman to take her out to the halal area, so she entered ihram from al-Tan'eem. This is the Sunnah for the people of Makkah: if they wish to perform 'Umrah, they go out of the Haram: to 'Arafah, al-Ja'ranah, or al-Tan'eem, meaning, out of the Haram. They enter ihram for 'Umrah and then enter.
The presenter: May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.
