The obligation of the committed daughter when her mother calls her to abandon her commitment

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A message was received by the program from the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, sent by a sister from there. She says: The distressed (A. A. S.) our sister says: I am a Muslim, praise be to Allah, and I do everything that pleases Allah and I am committed to the Shari'ah hijab. But my mother, may Allah forgive her, does not want me to be committed to the hijab, and she also wants me to watch cinema and video and the like. She says: If you do not enjoy yourself and relax—apparently—she says: If you continue in this state, you will become exhausted and your hair will turn white. Please, what do you advise me, and what is your opinion of such a mother?
Answer: It is obligatory for you, O questioner, to be gentle with your mother and to treat her well, and to address her in the best manner, and to be gentle with her; because the mother's right is great, and dutifulness to her is among the most important obligations. But you do not have to obey her in what is not good. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Obedience is in matters which are good and universally recognized.إنما الطاعة في المعروف
Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A creature is not to be obeyed when it involves disobedience to the "Creator.”لا طاعة لمخلوق في معصية الخالق
Mishkat al-Masabih 3696
. So the father, the mother, the husband, the ruler, the prince, and others are not to be obeyed in the sins of Allah.
Obedience is in matters which are good and universally recognized.إنما الطاعة في المعروف
Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani)
in what is permissible, but in sin, no. If she orders you to do what is a sin against Allah, such as attending cinema and video that contains indecent images, songs, and what is wrong, you do not have to obey her in that. But you respond to her with kind words and a good manner, and you inform her that this is not permissible for you, and that obedience to Allah takes precedence, and that it is not permissible for you to obey any created being, whoever it is, in the sins of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He. Perhaps she will be convinced, and perhaps she will stop arguing with you and harming you. And Allah is the One to be sought for help.
As for her saying that you will become exhausted and your hair will turn white, this is a baseless statement, a statement with no basis. So modesty regarding the prohibitions of Allah and staying away from the prohibitions of Allah is not a cause of exhaustion or a cause of white hair or gray hair. No, the causes of this are the passage of time and the advancement of age, or what befalls a person of illnesses until his body weakens. As for obedience to Allah, it helps the person and strengthens him, as He, Exalted and Majestic is He, said:
And [saying], "Seek forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him, [and] He will let you enjoy a good provision for a specified term and give every doer of favor his favorوَأَنِ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ يُمَتِّعْكُمْ مَتَاعًا حَسَنًا إِلَى أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى وَيُؤْتِ كُلَّ ذِي فَضْلٍ فَضْلَهُ
[Hud: 3]. So good strengthens people in the obedience of Allah. Fatimah complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), asking for a servant to spare her the toil of the mill and the service of the house. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) excused himself to her by saying that he did not have a servant at that time, and he said to her:
You glorify Allah and praise Him and magnify Him when you sleep thirty-three times each. He said: It is better for you than a servant. She said: So I practiced this, and I did not complain of toil after that.تسبحين الله وتحمدينهه وتكبيرين عند النوم ثلاثاً وثلاثين مرة، قال: هو خير لك من خادم، قالت: فاستعملت هذا فما اشتكيت بعد ذلك تعبًا
So righteous deeds and the prescribed dhikr strengthen the believing man and the believing woman, they do not weaken them. Rather, whatever the believing woman or the believing man does of seeking forgiveness and obedience to Allah, this is stronger for his heart and his body, and more pleasing to Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, and more beneficial for him in this world and the Hereafter.
And as for this statement that the mother says, it is what Satan has put on her tongue, so it has no basis.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
