The questioner : She says that she is a woman divorced for nine years, and she has children, and from that time she has not seen or heard anything about her children, because the father prevents them from visiting their mother. She says: Am I thereby sinful, and does a sin attach to me because I have not tried to speak to them due to the fact that the father, meaning the father of these children, prevents me from doing so?
The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment:
I address the father first, and I say that it is not permissible for him to prevent his children from visiting their mother. If he has the right to prevent her from visiting them, meaning if she is to visit them in his house, the house is his house, but he has no right to prevent his children from visiting her in her house. I fear that this man who has stood between the mother and her children will be punished by Allah the Exalted by preventing him from his loved ones, either in this world or in the Hereafter. What harm does it do him if these children visit their mother once a week for a day or two? What harm is there?
As for the mother, she must be patient and seek reward, and ask Allah Mighty and Majestic to make her husband willing to allow them to visit her.
