Ways of Protection from the Evils of Sorcerers and Fortune-Tellers

Question:
We ask for clarification of the statement of Allah the Exalted regarding fortune-tellers, and those similar to them, who abandoned the path of Allah and went to the devils to learn from them: [al-Baqarah:102] How does this happen? Does this harm occur to the believers and the open sinners? And what is the way of protection from these evils and harms, given that many fortune-tellers advertise to the common people their ability to do so?
Answer:
This thing may happen. They may take these wicked paths to serve the devils, and to serve those who engage in these matters, keep their company, and learn from them. These include types of sorcery, fortune-telling, palm reading, divination, and others. They engage in these matters for the sake of money, to seize the wealth of people, or so that people will exalt them. They say: "They know such and such, and they know such and such." This is a reality. Allah tests His servants with ease and hardship, and He tests His servants with the wicked and the righteous, so that the truthful may be distinguished from the liar, so that the close friend of Allah may be distinguished from the enemy of Allah, so that the one who worships Allah and strives for the safety of his religion may be distinguished from the one who fights against disbelief, hypocrisy, and sins, and so that it may become clear who is weak in that, deficient in that, or... due to laziness and weakness.
So Allah distinguishes people in what He tests them with, of ease and hardship, severity and ease, the empowerment of enemies and the ignorant, and types of open sinfulness, so that the close friends of Allah may be distinguished from the enemies of Allah, and the supporters of the religion of Allah from the weak who are abandoned, or who are left to their own devices, and so on. This is a reality.
And protection from that is prescribed, praise be to Allah. Protection from their evil is prescribed by Allah for His servants. One protects oneself from their evil by what Allah has prescribed of seeking refuge, the prescribed dhikr, and the prescribed medicines. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed:Sahih Muslim 2708a And he said: Whoever says Sunan Abi Dawud 3898Sahih (Al-Albani) And he said: And he said: من قرأ آية الكرسي اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ [البقرة:255] حين يضطجع؛ لم يضره شيء حتى يصبح Whoever recites the Verse of the Throne, "Allah, there is no deity except He, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer" [al-Baqarah:255] when he lies down; nothing will harm him until morning..
And this is from the favor of Allah And likewise, reciting "Say, He is Allah, the One" and the two chapters of seeking refuge are among the causes of safety from all evil, after the midday, afternoon, sunset, night, and dawn prayers. It is prescribed to repeat them three times after the sunset and dawn prayers. All of these are among the causes of protection.
And likewise, the prescribed dhikr: Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, and Allahu Akbar, are all among the causes of safety and well-being. And reciting the Noble Qur'an, and caring for the command of Allah and His obedience, and abandoning His sins, are all among the causes of safety. And it is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: So the seeking refuge and the prescribed dhikr are all among the causes of safety and well-being.

that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah.
Answer:
