Explaining what is obligatory upon one who has intercourse with his wife during the day in Ramadan
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q319: The questioner, A. M. from the city of Abha, says: A young man got married in the month of Sha'ban, and then the previous month of Ramadan came upon him, so he broke his fast for the entire month. What is obligatory upon him?
A319: Marriage is a blessing from Allah, and it is obligatory upon him to be grateful for this blessing. As for leaving the fast of Ramadan on the occasion of being married, this is a sin, and it is not permissible for him, unless he is sick or a traveler, among those whom Allah the Exalted has excused. It is obligatory upon him to fast, even if he was recently married. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:187]. So, the night is sufficient for him with his wife, but during the day, he fasts from the appearance of dawn until the setting of the sun in Ramadan every day, until he completes the month; because it is a pillar of the pillars of Islam, an established obligation, so it is not permissible to be lenient in it on the pretext that he was recently married. In fact, some of them, when they get married in Ramadan, have intercourse with their wives during the day, making Ramadan the honeymoon month. This is from ignorance and from violating
the sanctity of the month. So, an expiation is due upon him for every day in which he had intercourse with his wife, and he must make up the fast of the month.
