Fatwa number ( 18624 )
Q: I intended to perform Hajj this year as an individual (ifrad), saying: "Labbaik Allahumma bi al-Hajj, fa in habasani habisun fa mahalli hitha habastani" (Here I am, O Allah, for Hajj; if something prevents me, then my state of ihram ends where I am prevented). I performed all the rituals, including standing at 'Arafah and stoning the pillars. On the fifteenth of Dhul-Hijjah, my departure for Egypt was scheduled, but I fell ill with a severe illness that prevented me from performing the tawaf of ifadah and the farewell tawaf. What is the ruling? May Allah reward you with good?
A : It is obligatory for you to return to Makkah and perform the tawaf of ifadah, because it is a pillar of Hajj that is not completed without it. If you engaged in sexual intercourse during this period, it is also obligatory for you to slaughter a fidyah (expiation) in Makkah , which is a sheep that is acceptable for the 'Id sacrifice, to be distributed to the poor in Makkah , and you must not eat any of it. If you travel immediately after the tawaf of ifadah, that suffices for you in place of the farewell tawaf. If you delay in Makkah after the tawaf of ifadah, the farewell tawaf becomes obligatory for you upon departure. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
