Q: I performed Hajj last year, and I did all the obligatory acts of Hajj, such as entering the state of ihram, the arrival circumambulation, and others. I intended to combine the circumambulation of departure with the farewell circumambulation, because we are residents of Makkah al-Mukarramah . On the twelfth day, I fell severely ill and was unable to perform the circumambulation. I went home, and after the illness subsided, I experienced bleeding that lasted for 15 days. After becoming pure from this bleeding, I had intercourse with my husband. Then, a few days later, I remembered that I had not completed my Hajj. I asked about the ruling on this Hajj, and they said you must
perform an 'Umrah, and after that, perform the circumambulation of departure. I did as they said. Is there anything else required of me besides this, or not?
A: If the situation is as described, it is obligatory for you to pay a fidyah; you must slaughter a sheep that is acceptable for the 'Id sacrifice, slaughter it, and distribute it to the poor of Makkah as expiation for the intercourse that occurred before the circumambulation of departure. Your Hajj is valid, if Allah wills, and you do not have to perform the farewell circumambulation as long as you are from the people of Makkah . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
