Q: Is it permissible to take money for reciting the Qur'an on behalf of another person who had made a vow? And is it permissible to set a specific amount for reciting the mushaf or a juz'? We are aware that there is a person among us who takes payment for reciting the mushaf.
A: If a person vows to recite the Qur'an, it is obligatory for him to do so, because it is an act of obedience. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih al-Bukhari 6696 . It is not permissible for him to hire someone to recite it on his behalf, nor is his obligation discharged by doing so; because payment is not permissible for hiring a substitute to recite the Qur'an, as mentioned.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
