Fatwa number ( 13818 )
Q: One morning, while I was sleeping, my father hit me, and he wanted to go to Khamis Mushayt, so I swore by Allah, while angry, that I would not take you. He was an old man. After that, he was angry with me. After my anger subsided, he went on foot, so I sought forgiveness and caught up with him and carried him. I hope for an answer. May Allah reward you with good.
A: It is obligatory for you to be kind to your father and to help him in what he asks of you to do, provided it is what Allah has made permissible. You should bear what reaches you from him that is disliked by the soul and causes it harm. However, if he orders you to commit a sin, there is no obedience to a creation in disobedience to the Creator. As for your breaking of the oath, you did well in that; because it is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan an-Nasa'i 3780Sahih (Darussalam) . And you must pay the expiation for the oath, which is: feeding ten poor people from the middle of your food, or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave. If you do not find the means to do so, then fast for three days.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
