Her mother mismanages the money; should he help her against his father for the sake of being dutiful to her?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa number ( 2255 )
Q 4: The substance of the question is that a woman mismanages the maintenance expenses by purchasing musical instruments and the like; is it permissible for her adult
educated sons to help her against their father under the claim of being dutiful to her?

A 4: If her situation is as the questioner described, then her sons must not assist her against their father. Rather, they should advise her and guide her to treat her father well and obey him, and to care well for her daughters. They should treat their parents with kindness and fulfill the rights of each of them as prescribed by the Shari'ah. They should cooperate with them in righteousness and piety, and they must not cooperate with them or with either of them in sin and transgression. This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment
[Al-Isra 17:23]
the verse, and His saying:
(14) And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination. (15) But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
[Luqman 31:14-15]
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
