She committed the prohibitions of the mourning period out of ignorance

Fatwa number ( 7422 )
Q: My father passed away last year, 1403 AH, and my mother was in the mourning period after his death, but she did not observe the mourning period as you mentioned in the previous letter. Rather, she went out of the house without an important need, and she wore her best clothes, and she applied kohl and perfume; due to her lack of knowledge. Is there anything she must do?
A: It is obligatory to avoid adornment during the mourning period, and not to go out except for a dire necessity. As long as she committed some of the prohibitions out of her ignorance, she must seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him, and we hope that Allah will forgive her. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
