Expenditure beyond need

Fatwa No. ( 4359 )
Q: I am a person of means, possessing abundant wealth earned lawfully, if Allah wills. I fulfill my obligations toward my family, the poor, and the needy, and other duties, praise be to Allah. I built a house and furnished it with very luxurious, extravagant, and expensive furniture from abroad. However, I am confused about my situation, as I do not know if by doing this I am among those about whom Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.
[Luqman 31:18]
,
and do not spend wastefully.
[Al-Isra 17:26]
the verse.

A: Expenditure from wealth, if it exceeds the amount of need, may be forbidden, and it may be disliked. The prohibition of extravagance and wastefulness has been mentioned. So Allah the Exalted said:
O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.
[Al-A'raf 7:31]
, and Allah the Exalted said:
(26) And give the relative his right, and [also] the poor and the traveler, and do not spend wastefully. (27) Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has Satan been to his Lord ungrateful. (28) And if you [must] turn away from the needy awaiting mercy from your Lord which you expect, then speak to them a gentle word. (29) And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely and [thereby] become blamed and insolvent.
[Al-Isra 17:26-29]
.
Based on what we have mentioned, we advise you to take the middle path in all your affairs. We advise you to participate in avenues of righteousness, such as being kind to poor relatives and your Muslim brothers, helping in the construction of mosques, encouraging schools for memorizing the Qur'an, calling to Allah, and printing books on creed, Qur'anic exegesis and its sciences, books on the Sunnah including texts and commentaries, hadith sciences, books on Islamic jurisprudence and its principles and rules, and other avenues of righteousness. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
