The second question of Fatwa No. ( 18190 )
Q2: Here in Yemen, there are knowledge centers for the people of the Sunnah and the community. If I want to go to them, I cannot do so except by deceiving and concealing things from my father, and afterwards he becomes angry with me. What is the ruling on my action?
A2: Your attendance at the gatherings of the scholars of the people of the Sunnah and the community, and benefiting from them, is an act of good, so your father has no right to prevent you from them. Be broad in wisdom and good admonition in convincing your father of this. If he is not on the methodology of the people of the Sunnah and the community , then advise him, and show him with proof that the methodology of the people of the Sunnah is the true methodology, and it is the one upon which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were. And it is obligatory to adopt it, adhere to it, and abandon what contradicts it. Beware of falling short in dutifulness to your father and doing good to him, and strive yourself in that. You will have the reward, if Allah wills, for your dutifulness to your father and your desire for good for yourself and for him. However, you do not have to obey him in what contradicts the pure Shari'ah; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani) .
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
