Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (When the Great Calamity comes)
And when Allah reminded His servants of these blessings that indicate the perfection of His power, He reminded them of their inevitable destination, which is unavoidable,So Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
But when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity -فَإِذَا جَاءَتْ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَى
[An-Nazi'at: 34] And that is the standing of the Hour, and He called it a calamity because it is a great disaster that overwhelms everything that came before it. (The Great) means: greater than every calamity.
(34) But when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity - (35) The Day when man will remember that for which he strove,فَإِذَا جَاءَتْ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَى * يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ الإِنسَانُ مَا سَعَى
[An-Nazi'at: 34-35] This is an explanation of this day on which the Great Calamity occurs, which is the day on which a person will remember what he has striven for, he will remember it, and find it written with him, reading it with his own eyes,Allah the Exalted said:
and We will produce for him on the Day of Resurrection a record which he will encounter spread open. (14) [It will be said], "Read your record. Sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant."
[Al-Isra: 13-14] When he reads it, he will remember what he has striven for,Meaning: what he did. As for today, we have forgotten what we did. We did many deeds, some of them good, some of them idle talk, and some of them evil, but all of this is forgotten. On the Day of Resurrection, this will be presented to us in a book,And it is said:
Read your book!اقْرَأْ كِتَابَكَ
[Al-Isra: 14] You with your own eyes:
Sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant."كَفَى بِنَفْسِكَ الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكَ حَسِيباً
[Al-Isra: 14] So at that time, a person will remember what he has striven for.
and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust!"وَيَقُولُ الْكَافِرُ يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنْتُ تُرَاباً
[An-Naba: 40]
