Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : My first question is: Is it permissible for a girl to dye her hair, and is dyeing hair forbidden in Islamic law?

The Shaykh : Dyeing hair, whether by a girl or by someone other than a girl, is permissible if it is not with black.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Rather, it is commanded. However, if it is with black, it is forbidden, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
Change this white hair and avoid black. غيروا هذا الشيب وجنبوه السواد
The command implies obligation. Furthermore, it is an attempt to change the creation of Allah and to turn the matter to the opposite of what He decreed and ordained. Because the man who has gone gray or the woman who has gone gray, if she dyes with black, it is as if she is saying, or as if he is saying: I am returning this matter, which has appeared as a sign of gray hair, to black so that I may remain young. This is most similar to the practice of *falaj* (dyeing teeth) and the like, regarding which a warning was issued. Therefore, for a person to oppose Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) in His command or in His decree in order to return hair that indicates old age and advanced age to hair that indicates youth, for this reason we say that it is forbidden to dye white hair with black, whether by a man or a woman, in the head or in the beard.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Also, the one sent from Kerkuk in Iraq.
