The chapter on bidding farewell to a companion and advising him upon parting for travel or otherwise, and supplicating for him and asking him to supplicate for you: Allah the Exalted said

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The chapter on bidding farewell to a companion and advising him upon parting for travel or otherwise, and supplicating for him and asking him to supplicate for you. Allah the Exalted said:
(132) And Abraham instructed his sons [to do the same] and [so did] Jacob, [saying], "O my sons, indeed Allah has chosen for you this religion, so do not die except while you are Muslims." (133) Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob, when he said to his sons, "What will you worship after me?" They said, "We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac - one God. And we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."
[Al-Baqarah 2:132-133]
And as for the hadiths, among them is the hadith of Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) which was mentioned previously in the chapter on honoring the household of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among us as a preacher, praised Allah, gave thanks to Him, admonished and reminded us, then said:
Now to our purpose. O people, I am a human being. I am about to receive a messenger (the angel of death) from my Lord and I, in response to Allah's call, (would bid good-bye to you), but I am leaving among you two weighty things: the one being the Book of Allah in which there is right guidance and light, so hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it.
Sahih Muslim 2408a
He urged us to the Book of Allah and encouraged us in it, then said:
The second are the members of my household I remind you (of your duties) to the members of my family
Sahih Muslim 2408a
Muslim narrated it."

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) stated in his book *Riyad al-Salihin* regarding the farewell to a traveler, his advice, and the supplication for him and the request for his supplication. This is because when a person travels, it is recommended that his relatives, kin, and companions bid him farewell and advise him to fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Indeed, Allah the Exalted says:
And We have instructed those who were given the Scripture before you and yourselves to fear Allah
[An-Nisa 4:131]
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to say when he sent out an army or a detachment and appointed an commander over them:
I advise you to fear Allah and to do good to the Muslims with you
This is because a person needs someone to help and support him in obeying his Lord, especially when traveling, for travel is a place of busyness and negligence, especially in the past when journeys were long, on mounts or on foot. People need advice, firmness, and assistance. Then the author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned the verses related to this, saying:
And Abraham instructed his sons [to do the same] and [so did] Jacob, [saying], "O my sons, indeed Allah has chosen for you this religion, so do not die except while you are Muslims."
[Al-Baqarah 2:132]
This advice is the saying of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) regarding Ibrahim:
When his Lord said to him, "Submit", he said "I have submitted [in Islam] to the Lord of the worlds."
[Al-Baqarah 2:131]
He did not hesitate, but submitted to Allah and obeyed Him.
And Ibrahim bequeathed it to his children, and Ya'qub
This means he advised them with this advice, which is to submit to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) outwardly and inwardly. Outward Islam is established by performing the prayer, giving zakah, fasting Ramadan, and performing Hajj to the House. Inward Islam is established by faith in Allah, His angels, His books, and so on.
And Abraham instructed his sons [to do the same] and [so did] Jacob, [saying], "O my sons, indeed Allah has chosen for you this religion وصى بها إبراهيم بنيه ويعقوب يا بني إن الله اصطفى لكم الدين
[Al-Baqarah 2:132]
This means that Ibrahim and Ya'qub each advised their sons with this.
Indeed, Allah has chosen for you the religion
That is: He chose it for you.
so do not die except while you are Muslims." فلا تموتن إلا وأنتم مسلمون
[Al-Baqarah 2:132]
The meaning is: Persist in Islam and remain steadfast upon it until death, and do not turn away from it.
Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob, when he said to his sons, "What will you worship after me?" They said, "We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac - one God أم كنتم شهداء إذ حضر يعقوب الموت إذ قال لبنيه ما تعبدون من بعدي قالوا نعبد إلهك وإله آبائك إبراهيم وإسماعيل وإسحاق إلهًا واحدًا
[Al-Baqarah 2:133]
This is the pinnacle of tawhid (the oneness of Allah), and it is part of the sincere advice of Ya'qub (peace be upon him) to his sons, as he wanted to know their state before he left the world.
What will you worship after me?" They said, "We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac
[Al-Baqarah 2:133]
As for Ibrahim, he is his father, meaning his grandfather, and Ishaq is his father in the direct line. As for Isma'il, he is his uncle, but the term "fathers" was used for the sake of predominance, because the uncle is the brother of the father, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to 'Umar:
Don`t you know that a man`s uncle is like his father?
Musnad Ahmad 725Da'if (Darussalam)
This means: his partner in the root and trunk. The *sanaw* is a term for two palm trees that have one root and are companions. It is called *qarain* by the common people. And his saying:
One God
is for the sake of emphasis.
And we are Muslims [in submission] to Him." ونحن له مسلمون
[Al-Baqarah 2:133]
This advice is something a person should advise to anyone who intends to travel, and he should advise his family with it and check on them regarding it, because it is the foundation of everything. There is no religion without sincerity, no worship without sincerity, and no following without sincerity. Everything is built upon sincerity to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). O Allah, we ask You to make us among those who worship You with sincere religion, O Lord of the worlds.
