Continuation of the Chapter on the Prohibition of Hatred, Severing Ties, and Turning Away: Allah the Exalted said: “Indeed, the believers are brothers.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Reciter: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “The Chapter on the Prohibition of Hatred, Severing Ties, and Turning Away. Allah the Exalted said:
The believers are but brothers
[Al-Hujurat 49:10]
And He said:
humble toward the believers, powerful against the disbelievers
[Al-Ma'idah 5:54]
And He said:
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves
[Al-Fath 48:29]
”

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*: “The Chapter on the Prohibition of Hatred, Severing Ties, and Turning Away”, and the meaning of this has been mentioned previously.
Then the author (may Allah have mercy on him) cited as evidence for this the saying of Allah the Exalted:
The believers are but brothers
[Al-Hujurat 49:10]
This verse is in the context of mentioning two factions that are fighting, so another faction should reconcile them. So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:
The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers
[Al-Hujurat 49:10]
And the context of the verses, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says:
And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two
[Al-Hujurat 49:9]
meaning if two factions of Muslims, tribes, fight among themselves,
Then make peace between them.
and the address is to those who have authority among the believers who did not fight,
If one of them transgresses against the other
and one refuses to make peace,
then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah
[Al-Hujurat 49:9]
meaning be with the just faction that is not the aggressor, fight the aggressor,
until it returns to the command of Allah
meaning until it returns to it,
And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice
[Al-Hujurat 49:9]
meaning regarding what occurred between them of destruction of lives or wealth or otherwise,
then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.
[Al-Hujurat 49:9]
it is said, for example, how many lives did you kill from one faction and for the other likewise, then balance between them and reconcile them, how much wealth did you destroy, so look and balance between them and reconcile them. Then He, Mighty and Majestic, said:
And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.
[Al-Hujurat 49:9]
meaning those who are just in what Allah entrusted to them,
The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers
[Al-Hujurat 49:10]
all believers are brothers, even the two fighting factions are brothers to those who reconciled between them.
And in this verse is a clear refutation of the statement of the Khawarij, and in this verse is a clear refutation of the statement of the Khawarij who say that if a person commits a major sin, he becomes a disbeliever. Indeed, one of the greatest of major sins is that Muslims fight among themselves, and yet Allah said about them, the fighters and the one who reconciled between them:
The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers
[Al-Hujurat 49:10]
So if Allah the Exalted made it obligatory to reconcile between the fighting parties, so too between those who hold enmity, enmity short of killing. It is obligatory for a person, if he knows that there is enmity, hatred, animosity, and distance between two people, to try to reconcile between them. And in this case, it is permissible to lie for the sake of benefit, saying for example to one of them, “So-and-so did not do anything that harms you,” or the like of that, and interpret something other than what he displayed to this man, so that reconciliation proceeds between them.
Reconciliation is better

As for the second verse, it is His saying, the Exalted:
O you who have believed, whoever of you should revert from his religion - Allah will bring forth [in place of them] a people He will love and who will love Him [who are] humble toward the believers, powerful against the disbelievers
[Al-Ma'idah 5:54]
meaning if you turn back from your religion, then that does not harm Allah anything. Allah will bring a people whom He loves and who love Him, for their establishment of His worship and following of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). Because one of the strongest causes of Allah’s love for the servant is that he follows the Messenger, as He said, the Exalted:
Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins قل إن كنتم تحبون الله فاتبعوني يحببكم الله ويغفر لكم ذنوبكم
[Ali 'Imran 3:31]
So if you want Allah to love you, follow the Messenger. The path is very clear. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says:
Allah will bring forth [in place of them] a people He will love and who will love Him [who are] humble toward the believers, powerful against the disbelievers
[Al-Ma'idah 5:54]
And this is the description of the true believer: that with regard to his Muslim brothers, he is humble, modest, lenient, and forgiving. But with regard to the disbelievers, they are arrogant, arrogant toward the disbelievers, meaning they are strong before the disbeliever; they do not soften toward him, do not deal with him deceitfully, do not love him, and do not befriend him, because all of this is forbidden for the believer with regard to the disbeliever. It is not permissible for the believer to befriend the disbeliever, nor is it permissible for him to be humble before him, because Allah the Exalted made for him a religion that is higher than all religions. Rather, it is obligatory upon us to hate the disbelievers and to consider them our enemies, and to know that they will not do anything for us that is in our benefit except to gain what is more severe than what we expect of harm to us, because they are enemies. And what does the enemy want to do to you? He wants to do to you all evil. And if he pretends to be a friend or that he is a close friend of yours, he is a liar. He only seeks his own benefit, because no one is more truthful than Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and He knows what is in the breasts. He, Mighty and Majestic, says:
O you who have believed, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies
[Al-Mumtahanah 60:1]
And He, Glorious and Exalted, says:
O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another
[Al-Ma'idah 5:51]
