Explanation of the author's statement: "Such as saying: If Allah heals my sick one, or if my lost property is returned, then I owe Allah such-and-such. If the condition is met, he is obligated to fulfill it, except if he vowed..."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"Such as saying: If Allah heals my sick one, or if my lost property is returned, then I owe Allah such-and-such", or if he succeeds, as some students do when they are weak, saying, "If I succeed, I owe Allah a vow of such-and-such."
He says, "When the condition is found, fulfilling it becomes obligatory". What is the evidence? The saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
Whoever vows that he will be obedient to Allah, should remain obedient to Him
Sahih al-Bukhari 6696
This includes obedience, whether it is conditional or absolute. "Except if one vows to give charity with all his wealth, or with a specified amount that exceeds one-third of the total, then one-third is sufficient for him". Correct, the author has excluded from his statement "that fulfilling it becomes obligatory" the case where one vows to give charity with all his wealth, in which case one-third is sufficient for him. The companions (may Allah have mercy on them) cited as evidence for this the hadith of Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) and the hadith of Abu Lubabah ibn 'Abd al-Mundhir (may Allah be pleased with him). As for Ka'b ibn Malik, you know his story: he lagged behind the expedition to Tabuk without an excuse. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from Tabuk, the hypocrites came to excuse themselves to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He would excuse them, seek forgiveness for them, and leave their inner secrets to Allah. They were pleased with this because they were people of outward appearance, so they rejoiced in the outward show and said, "The Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) seeking forgiveness for us is enough for us." They did not know that Allah said
Ask forgiveness for them, [O Muhammad], or do not ask forgiveness for them. If you should ask forgiveness for them seventy times - never will Allah forgive them
[At-Tawbah 9:80]
, refuge with Allah. As for Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), Hilal ibn Umayyah, and Murarah ibn al-Rabi', they told the truth and said, "We have no excuse." Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke eloquent and astonishing words in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for he was the youngest and most robust of the men. He said, "I have been granted eloquence", meaning I am able to argue and know how to extricate myself, "but it is not possible for me to present an excuse to you today so that you would excuse me, only for Allah the Exalted to expose me tomorrow". Allah is the Greatest! Faith and certainty. As for the hypocrites, Allah said about them
They will swear by Allah to you when you return to them that you would leave them alone. So leave them alone; indeed they are evil; and their refuge is Hell as recompense for what they had been earning.
[At-Tawbah 9:95]
. As for this man, due to his faith, he gave the truth and said, "I have no excuse, and I have never owned two mounts in an expedition like this." He did not own two mounts, but procrastination took hold of him. When the people set out on the first day, he said, "I will wait, and tomorrow I will catch up with them." On the second day, he said, "Tomorrow I will catch up with them," until the time passed. How did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) treat him? He boycotted him. He stopped speaking to him, to the point where Ka'b said, "I would come and greet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I would wonder whether he moved his lips to return the greeting or not", despite the good character of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). But every situation has its appropriate response. Nevertheless, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would observe him; when he would say the takbir for prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would look at him. If Ka'b turned toward him, he would turn away, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was the best of people in caring for his companions. He remained in this state, going out to the market and speaking to people who did not speak to him, until Abu Qatadah, Ka'b ibn Malik's maternal uncle and the person he loved most, entered his garden and greeted him, but he did not return the greeting. He greeted him and did not return the greeting, so Ka'b appealed to him, "I appeal to you by Allah, do you know that I love Allah and His Messenger?" He wanted him to speak, but when he appealed to him by Allah, he did not speak to him. And what did he say? "Allah knows best". This phrase is suitable as a direct address and as something other than a direct address. Allah knows best. When forty nights had passed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered them to separate from their wives. They left their wives to go to their families. When the messenger of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Ka'b and said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) orders you to keep away from your wife," Ka'b said, "I?" Did he say, "I am a young man and it is hard for me to separate from my family," did he? No, by Allah, he did not say that. He said, "Should I divorce her, or should I keep away from her?" If he had said "divorce her," he would have divorced her. He said, "You are ordered to keep away from your family." So the woman went to her family, or he kept away from her. After forty nights, and after fifty nights, relief came from Allah the Mighty and Sublime. Allah is the Greatest!
And [He also forgave] the three who were left behind [and regretted their error] to the point that the earth closed in on them in spite of its vastness and their souls confined them and they were certain that there is no refuge from Allah except in Him. Then He turned to them so they could repent. Indeed, Allah is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.
[At-Tawbah 9:118]
They remained for fifty nights, the people boycotting them and not speaking to them. During this period, a letter came from the King of Ghassan to Ka'b ibn Malik, a great trial. A letter came to him from the king, the King of Ghassan, who said to him, "It has reached us that your companion has been harsh with you, and he seeks your presence with him so that he may honor you and give you status". When he read the letter, he did not keep it, for example, or hold onto it; he went and put it in the oven, he burned it in the oven, he used it as fuel. Why? So that his soul would not deceive him and he would respond to it. He destroyed it immediately. His repentance from Allah the Mighty and Sublime came down on one of the nights. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rose in the morning, he informed the people of Allah's acceptance of his repentance. Allah is the Greatest! Ka'b had not been praying because he was boycotted, as if you said, "No contact." He was not praying. So a man from the Muslims went to Salwa, a known mountain in Medina, and called out at the top of his voice, "Rejoice, O Ka'b, with the best day that has passed for you since your mother bore you. Rejoice with Allah's acceptance of your repentance". And a man went on a horse to bring him the good news. Look at how the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) rejoiced at Allah's acceptance of the repentance of their brothers and companions. He went, but the man with the voice was faster, so the good news reached the man with the voice. Ka'b ibn Malik gave him his robe. When he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and entered the mosque, Talhah ibn 'Abd Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up to congratulate him on Allah's acceptance of his repentance. He said, "I never forgot this for Talhah", that he stood up among the Companions to congratulate Ka'b and greet him. As for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when Ka'b saw him, his face was beaming with joy, like a piece of the moon, with joy at the blessing of Allah the Mighty and Sublime in His acceptance of the repentance of these three, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was undoubtedly the most merciful of people toward his Ummah and his Companions, and the most loving of them for their good. So this matter, Subhan Allah al-Azim, this Quran was revealed in it, to be recited until the Day of Resurrection. Look, the trial is followed by the gift. Every trial from Allah the Mighty and Sublime, if you are patient with it, rejoice in its aftermath, which is a gift. After this, he said,
so they could repent. Indeed, Allah is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful. (119) O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are true.
[At-Tawbah 9:118-119]
So He made them an example for others in truthfulness. When Allah accepted his repentance, he said, "O Messenger of Allah, part of my repentance is that I divest myself of my wealth as charity". He said,
Keep some of your wealth for yourself; that is better for you.
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3823Sahih (Darussalam)

The questioner : Allah is the Greatest.

The Shaykh : ... Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) was not praying with the congregation because he had been boycotted by the order of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Yes, this ... if Allah wills.
