Is it permissible for a woman who fears for herself regarding pregnancy and childbirth to prevent pregnancy through a tubal ligation or similar procedure, given that her age is forty-seven?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it permissible for a woman who fears for herself regarding pregnancy and childbirth to prevent pregnancy through a tubal ligation or similar procedure? Given that her age is forty-seven?

The Shaykh : This requires two things, or two conditions:
The first condition is the husband's consent to it.
The second condition is that she suffers harm from pregnancy that is not customary. In that case, there is nothing wrong with her having her tubes tied for a specified period.
As for if the husband does not give permission, it is not permissible for her to have her tubes tied, nor to take what prevents pregnancy, because the husband has a right to a child.
Likewise, if the harm she suffers is only the customary harm of pregnant women, this is something that must be endured, so she should not have her tubes tied for that reason, nor take what prevents pregnancy for that reason.
