Encouraging a woman to be patient and not to complain about her husband to anyone
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Our Algerian sister says: I have a married sister who has problems with her husband and his family. When she comes to visit us, she tells us what is happening to her and her children and cries a lot, as she is being treated very unjustly. We advise her to be patient, but I ask: Is it permissible for her to do that with us? May Allah reward you with good. And what do you advise her to do?
Answer: We advise her to be patient if the husband is good and kind. We advise her not to complain to you and not to inform you of anything, but rather that it should remain between her and her husband. If she is able to ask his father, or his eldest brother, or his maternal uncle, or his paternal uncle who is good, to advise him and give him counsel if the need arises, there is nothing wrong with that. However, it is better if she can resolve her problems herself between her and him.
She must also use good character, kind words, and a good manner so that his anger subsides and so that he responds to her request, not through violence, harshness, or boycotting him, or the like. Rather, she should handle matters with wisdom, kind words, and a good manner.
And her husband must fear Allah, and treat his wife with kindness, kind words, and a good manner. Each of them must strive to deal with the other with gentleness and goodness, as Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: : [Surat al-Nisa: 19] And He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: [Surat al-Baqarah: 228]. His right is greater, but he is not permitted to use his right to wrong her, be aggressive toward her, frown at her, or treat her badly. All of this is not permissible. Rather, he must recognize her worth, treat her well, smile at her, and deal with her with gentleness and kind words as much as possible, so that the relationship is upright, so that affection lasts, and so that each one fulfills what is due to the other.
And she, likewise, must be upright and deal with him with gentleness, kind words, and a good manner, and fulfill his right with all cheerfulness and all kind words, so that the relationship is good. Each of them should strive to have a good relationship with the other, and to use kind words and a good manner in all circumstances, during intercourse and other than intercourse, in the needs of the house, in visiting her family, and in other matters. Each of them must use good methods and gentleness in resolving problems. We ask Allah for guidance for everyone.
