Encouraging a woman to treat her husband well

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says, “O His Eminence the Shaykh: I married when I was young and did not know the rights of a husband. One of them deceived me, and I divorced my husband, and I wronged my husband. I am now regretful, so what is obligatory upon me, may Allah preserve you? I ask you, O His Eminence the Shaykh, to pray for him for good and for the facilitation of sustenance. I hope to return to him, so what is your guidance, may Allah preserve you?”

Answer:
The guidance is that you must repent to Allah for the shortcomings you committed, feel remorse and repent to Allah, and ask Him for forgiveness , and not return to such behavior with the new husband. If you return to him, provided the divorce was a single pronouncement or two pronouncements, he has the right to take you back. You must strive to be kind in your companionship if you return to him, through good words, a pleasant manner, listening, and obedience in what is right, and not being defiant. This is how a wife should be. Allah the Exalted says:
And live with them in kindnessوَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
[al-Nisa: 19], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Treat women with kindnessاستوصوا بالنساء خيرًا
.
And he said regarding women:
It is upon the woman not to allow anyone into her husband’s house without his permission, and no one should lie on her bed without his permission.على المرأة ألا تأذن في بيت زوجها إلا بإذنه، ولا يطأ فراشها أحد إلا بإذنه
. And upon her is listening and obedience to her husband in what is right. So upon the woman is listening and obedience to her husband in what is right, and caring to honor him and do good to him, because his right over her is greater:
And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable. But the men have a degree over them [in responsibility and authority].وَلَهُنَّ مِثْلُ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَلِلرِّجَالِ عَلَيْهِنَّ دَرَجَةٌ
[Surat al-Baqarah: 228].
And it is upon him to treat her with kindness, and not to wrong her, and to treat her well in their cohabitation. But his right over her is greater, so she must listen and obey in what is right, and help him in the affairs of his home, and honor him until the situation between them is straightened out. But she does not obey him in sins. She honors him in his clothing, in his bed, in making herself available to him when he desires her, and in other matters of the home, and with his children and his family, and his parents, and the like. She should have good conduct with him, and with his parents, and with his relatives, until he is grateful and prays for her. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
