The ruling on a man looking at a woman he intends to propose to

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A question remains for our brother (Dr. M. M.), in which he says: If I want to marry a daughter who is committed to hijab, but she is not from my area and I do not know if she is beautiful or not, is it permissible to look at her if I have resolved to marry her, and how is that done? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer: Yes, it is prescribed for you to look at her. If you propose to a woman or intend to propose to her, it is prescribed for you to look at her if that is facilitated. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If one of you proposes to a woman, and if he is able to look at what would incline him to marry her, let him do so.إذا خطب أحدكم المرأة فإن استطاع أن ينظر منها إلى ما يدعوه إلى نكاحها فليفعل
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 6:1350
A man mentioned to him that he had proposed to a woman, so he said:
Have you looked at her?أنظرت إليها؟
He said: No. He said:
Go and look at herاذهب فانظر إليها
So what is prescribed for you is to look at her if that is facilitated. Otherwise, you can send a trustworthy woman, or one of her mahrams if you know her mahrams, to give you information. You can send a woman from your relatives, such as your mother, your maternal aunt, your paternal aunt, or your sister, to look at her and then give you her description. Or you can ask her mahrams to give you her description. And if it is facilitated for you to look at her without seclusion, there is nothing wrong with it. You ask her father, or her mother, or her brother, or someone similar, to allow you to look at her, but without seclusion. So you look at her in the presence of her father, or her mother, or her brother, or others, without seclusion. Yes.
