Ways to Protect Oneself from Satan’s Whispers and Doubts

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Does Satan influence the heart by casting doubts, suspicions, and conjectures? And how does one resist what he casts?

Answer:
There is no doubt that Shaytan has a great influence on hearts and deeds. Shaytan casts doubts, illusions, and whispers into hearts. One must resist this with beneficial knowledge, the remembrance of Allah , and seeking refuge in Allah from Shaytan. Shaytan is undoubtedly our enemy, as He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze.
[Fatiha:6].
And from this is His saying (Exalted and Majestic is He):
And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet except that when he spoke [or recited], Satan threw into it [some misunderstanding]. But Allah abolishes that which Satan throws in; then Allah makes precise His verses. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.
[Al-Hajj 22:52]
so that He may make what Satan casts a trial for those in whose hearts is disease and for those whose hearts are hard [Al-Hajj: 52, 53].
This makes it clear to us that Satan casts doubts and things from the whispers that become a trial for the diseases of the hearts and for those whose hearts are hard, due to their lack of insight and lack of knowledge. As for those who possess insight, the knowledge and light they have burns up those doubts, destroys those whispers, and removes them entirely, because of the guidance and insight that the possessor of the good, bright heart has.
However, those whose hearts are hard and those whose hearts are sick may be confused by what Shaytan casts upon them. Some of these whispers and knots may remain in their hearts, potentially harming them, misleading them from guidance, or leading them to the causes of destruction due to the sickness of their hearts, the hardness of their hearts, and their lack of knowledge. The way to deal with this is to be humble before Allah, to ask Him for well-being, to seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan, and to increase in the remembrance of Allah and in obedience to Him (Glorified and Exalted is He), while staying away from His sins. This is the cure for the whispers and evils that Shaytan casts.
