Intercourse with the wife during fasting
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 15684 )
Q: I am a man who believes in Allah the Exalted – if Allah wills – but Satan tempted me during the blessed month of Ramadan. I played with my wife, kissed her, and embraced her, and she did the same. We were both wearing our clothes, and this resulted in the release of desire from both of us. This happened at the beginning of our married life, and we did this for three days of Ramadan. We did not break our fast on these days; rather, we completed the fasting without eating or drinking. This was in Ramadan of the year 1410 AH. The current Ramadan has arrived, and we have not performed expiation or fasted to make up for the mistake we committed in the previous Ramadan, due to our ignorance of what is required of us regarding our mistake. Please issue a ruling for us, may Allah reward you.
A: If the situation is as you described, then your fasts are defective. Each of you must make up the number of days on which any of this occurred. Since you delayed making up the fasts until another Ramadan caught up with you without an excuse, each of you must, in addition to fasting, feed one poor person for each day on which this act occurred. The amount of food is one and a half kilograms of the local staple food for each poor person. You must also repent and seek forgiveness.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
