Fatwa number ( 20225 )
Q: I woke up in a state of major ritual impurity and I have an ailment (I am ill) such that I am unable to perform the full ritual bath for major ritual impurity. The time for the dawn prayer arrived, so I performed tayammum with the intention of the major ablution. I prayed with the congregation, and then the time for the midday prayer arrived. Do I perform tayammum with the intention of the major ablution, or the minor? And is it permissible for me to remain in the mosque, or not?
A: It is obligatory for you to purify yourself from both the major and minor states of ritual impurity, and this is done with water. If you are unable to purify yourself with water on your own, and there is no one to help you purify with water, then you perform tayammum with the intention of purifying yourself from both the major and minor states of ritual impurity, and you pray. If you wish to remain in the mosque after the prayer, it is permissible for you to do so. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
