Fatwa number ( 14314 )
Q: I tried to save a little money with the intention of building another room for my children, but I was unable to do so. When I returned last Ramadan, I asked my mother to let me live separately from my married brother. She said: “It would be better if you did that when you build an independent house.” I said: “Mother, in that case, I am unable to do so.” I decided on my own to live separately from my brother, hoping that I will be able to build a room for my children in the future; because I know that it is never permissible for them to sleep with their parents, but the obligation is to separate them in their beds. The second matter: My children have stopped praying, even though they were with me last year in the Kingdom, and we all performed the obligatory Hajj, by the grace of Allah. O honorable Shaykh: Is separating from my brother without my mother’s order, while I am compelled and forced to do so, considered disobedience to her and severing of family ties? Give us a ruling and guide us to the truth and the right path, may Allah reward you with good.
A: It is obligatory for you to be dutiful to your mother, to be kind to her, and to be gentle with her, and there is
no harm in you living separately from the family home in a separate house if there is a benefit in doing so. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
