His father mistreats him: should he travel and leave his father?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 14503 )
Q: A young man is twenty-five years old. His father is married to someone other than his mother and is well-off, but he does not treat his wives with justice. He treats this young man badly, even though the young man helps his father with his work. Despite this, his father refuses to help him get married. Is it permissible for this young man to leave his father and travel without his approval so that he can obtain the requirements for marriage, and to marry without his father's desire, and to live far away from him because he hurts him in his treatment, even though this young man is a university graduate and of good character? Or is it possible for him to save some money for himself from his father's money without his knowledge?
A: First: It is obligatory for the young man mentioned to be dutiful to his father and to treat him well in word and deed to the best of his ability. There is no harm in him working a job from which he earns, and it is recommended that this be in his homeland so that he can help his father. Second: It is prescribed for the young man to marry a woman of faith and good character,
and it is recommended that he consult his father to please him. Third: It is not permissible for the young man to save from his father's money without his knowledge, because of the betrayal involved in that. But he should ask his father for help through persuasion and kind speech. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
