What is the interpretation of Allah’s statement, informing about the people of Paradise: “Abiding therein as long as the heavens and the earth remain, except as your Lord wills.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Okay, please go ahead.

The questioner :
And as for those who were [destined to be] prosperous, they will be in Paradise, abiding therein as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except what your Lord should will - a bestowal uninterrupted. وأما الذين سعدوا ففي الجنة خالدين فيها ما دامت السماوات والأرض إلا ما شاء ربك عطاء غير مجذوذ
[Hud 11:108]
and the hadith ... .

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : So what is the meaning here of “enter” ... and does that mean that ... no one remains in Paradise ... except as Allah wills, and then ... or that there is another life other than the life of Paradise ... .

The Shaykh : No, its meaning is that the people of Paradise do not decay and do not perish, and that they live in its bliss without end. As for Allah’s statement
as long as the heavens and the earth endure مادامت السماوات والأرض
[Hud 11:107]
, this is information from Allah that He is the Doer of what He wills, and that no one has authority over Him. So if He wills, He does such and such, meaning He ends the bliss, whether in Paradise or in the Fire. But He informed in His verses and in many hadiths, (peace and blessings be upon him),
And upon you be peace, and Allah's mercy and blessings.
that Paradise does not perish, its garments do not decay, and its youth does not perish, in some authentic hadiths. So we combine these two reports: the report that informed us that Paradise does not perish, and the report in which Allah (Mighty and Majestic) decreed that the people of Paradise abide in it
as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except what your Lord should will ما دامت السماوات والأرض إلا ماشاء ربك
[Hud 11:107]
. But did your Lord will the absence of abiding? The other verse came stating that He willed the abiding.
So, this verse
as long as the heavens ما دامت السماوات
[Hud 11:107]
to its end, the purpose is to establish that the will of Allah is the prevailing one, whether by keeping the abiding for the people of Paradise or by ending it. If we only had this verse, we would actually be confused, not knowing whether there is abiding without end in Paradise or not. But when the many verses and the Prophetic hadiths, more and more, inform of the abiding, there is no contradiction between them and the verse.
