A man ordered his wife to perform a sunnah; is she obligated to obey him in applying this sunnah because obedience to him is obligatory?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Al-Halabi : It is well known that a wife’s obedience to her husband is obligatory. Is a husband’s order to his wife to perform a sunnah such that she must apply this sunnah, considering that obedience to her husband is obligatory?

The Shaykh : Yes, that is so. However, it must be noted that he does not intend to harass her by doing so; rather, he intends to educate her.
Al-Halabi : That is it.

The Shaykh : And how could it be otherwise? No, it is obligatory. Yes.
Al-Halabi : It is obligatory. May Allah reward you.

The questioner : All right, Shaykh, regarding the hadith now—may Allah reward you with good—that you mentioned to us, where he said to her:
Return to him his garden ردي عليه حديقته
She requested separation, meaning the understanding between the hadith:
Any woman who requests divorce from her husband أيما امرأة طلبت الطلاق من زوجها
and the hadith ... .

The Shaykh :
Without any problem من غير ما بأسٍ
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 8:1348
.

The questioner : Yes. How do you reconcile them? Here she requested, saying: I do not want him ... .

The Shaykh : No, there is certainly a problem with it, but the problem intended here is the wife’s arrogance. For example, as she said, he is religious and has high morals, but let us assume that sexually she is not satisfied with him, or he is cold, or whatever you may say. She has an excuse between herself and her Lord, but this excuse may not be publicized or mentioned. However, if there is nothing at all, then she is certainly held accountable. I do not believe that, first, in general regarding the Prophetic era, and second, in particular regarding this woman who speaks with the frankness of a sincere believer, saying: By Allah, I do not complain about him, neither in his religion nor his character, but I do not want him. It is possible, for example, that he is ugly in appearance. Is that reasonable?

The questioner : Yes, it is reasonable.

The Shaykh : All right, and she has no interaction with him. What is she supposed to do, live like a widow? That is not reasonable. So, for her, there is a problem, but regarding the outward matters, there is no problem. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) knew people best. Let us pray, and it seems the doctors are busy, so let us pray.
