The questioner : We performed Hajj with my father in 1401 AH, the first time we ever performed Hajj. When we entered the state of ihram and performed the arrival tawaf, we shortened our hair, and we were in the state of ihram for Hajj alone (ifrad). My father returned to Sudan, and I came to Riyadh, so I work here. I fasted ten days in Riyadh, but my father did not fast. I ask for your guidance on this and what is required of me and of my father. May Allah reward you.
The Shaykh : There is nothing required of you or of your father, because your shortening of the hair was due to ignorance; you did not intend to exit the state of ihram, since you were performing Hajj alone (ifrad). One who performs Hajj alone (ifrad) does not exit his state of ihram except on the Day of 'Id, when he has stoned the pillars and shaved or shortened his hair. Whoever does any of the prohibitions of ihram while ignorant commits no sin and owes no expiation, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:286] and His saying: [Al-Ahzab 33:5] and His saying regarding hunting: [Al-Ma'idah 5:95] The ignorant person is not intentional in sin, so he is not sinful. And if he is not sinful, the expiation of the sinful person does not apply to him.
In summary, there is nothing required of you or of your father.

Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred.
رَبَّنَا لا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَاAnd there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred but [only for] what your hearts intended
وَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ فِيمَا أَخْطَأْتُمْ بِهِ وَلَكِنْ مَا تَعَمَّدَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْAnd whoever of you kills it intentionally - the penalty is an equivalent from sacrificial animals to what he killed
وَمَنْ قَتَلَهُ مِنْكُمْ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَجَزَاءٌ مِثْلُ مَا قَتَلَ مِنَ النَّعَمِIn summary, there is nothing required of you or of your father.
